Ohm Spa — Local services in New York

Ohm Spa is a wonderful small family-owned spa in Gramercy, located in a stunning old church. The location is super convenient to public transportation and I’m glad it’s a quick bus ride away for me because I plan to come back again and again!

I came here this past Saturday evening for a prenatal facial with Amy. Initially, I found Ohm Spa via Yelp when searching for prenatal facial. I’m very particular with my skincare and exclusively use all natural and nontoxic products, and especially since I’m pregnant I’m extra careful about the products I put on my skin. Ohm Spa came up as highly rated and they use all natural products. It was easy to make an appointment. I texted the appointment / customer service line on Friday evening and was able to snag an appointment for the next day. I was sent very detailed instructions on how to get to the spa, which I appreciated. Upon entering, I was greeted by John, one of the owners.

My facial with Amy was wonderful. All the products used didn’t irritate my skin and the facial massage / techniques done by Amy were heavenly. During my pregnancy, I’ve been having aversions to various herbal and floral scents and while the products all had herbal scents, nothing bothered me too much. I just knew that every product used was safe for me and my baby. I actually had arrived at the spa feeling nauseous and low energy. After the facial, I felt energized and my nausea disappeared. The room itself was relaxing and warm.

After my facial, John came back out to ask about my experience. I asked if they retail any products because I had been looking for a new serum. He explained to me why they don’t retail products (they used to at their previous location). I really appreciated the fact that Ohm Spa doesn’t push any products. Sometimes that can ruin the relaxing spa appointment you just experienced!

Ohm is a rare gem in this oversaturated city of services. It is located in a landmark building with a beautiful lobby of illuminated stained glass and opulent stones. Inside, the space is much more humble and soothing, with soft lighting and music, and I absolutely love taking my dirty city shoes off. There is an air of tranquility and calm in the small waiting area that offers water, tea, and crunchy salty snacks as well as chargers for devices. I went in today for a one-hour facial and one-hour massage. The massage slut I am, I find that "massage" and "massage therapy" are relatively different. Tanya, who has had 13 years experience as a massage therapist, tuned into my body immediately and focused on areas that needed more care rather than just doing a general massage routine that I get from lesser priced places (not that those are bad, they're just hit or miss). After becoming butter, I moved to the facial room and Amy assessed my skin and treated my face in a way that felt caring and mindful. Afterward, I had a chat with the owner, Kathy, and felt every bit as tended to, cared for, and held by her warmth. As a woman, I need to feel safe to feel relaxed. Ohm has an all female staff that is attentive and kind. They are all super professional and do an excellent job while allowing me the comforts and security of a safe space. I came to Kathy (the owner) because I was in so much pain that it didn’t even seem possible. The pain felt like a literal nightmare. She shared her own experiences with me and soon I knew she fully understood exactly what I was going through.

When she met me as a patient she and did a full assessment before beginning any procedures. She put my comfort and recovery in top priority and took the time to understand exactly what my body needed. Everyone else only wanted to try to “fix” me without addressing the real problem, which was my daily physical habits and muscular strength. Other practices wanted to inject me with pain killers or chiropractors jumped on me, only increasing the pain I was experiencing and problems I was creating. Kathy also has a background as a physical therapist and, most impressively, it seemed as if she even knew how to “speak” to my body and help guide it into the right direction for a full recovery. She put in extra effort and time to make sure I was going to see progress as quickly as possible. In all of my time as a division one collegiate athlete, with access to top trainers, and travel all over the world to top spas and body work experts, I’ve never met anyone with such skill and passion as Kathy.
