I had to change my review from 4 stars to 1 because after going here for over a year, I had such a negative experience with Nicole that I decided not to return.
Although Nicole knows that I have alopecia, the last time I went to Sabine's Hallway, she proceeded to berate and belittle me for following my dermatologist's instructions to manipulate my hair as little as possible to avoid further hairloss. She complained the entire time, while styling my hair, about having to detangle my hair but can stand for hours twisting dreadlocks.
I now go to a different salon and see a stylist who doesn't berate me for being Black and having 4C hair or for any other reason I can't control, and who doesn't minimize my hairloss condition. My current stylist also doesn't suggest, against my dermatologist's instructions, that I "detangle and twist my hair every night," knowing that my hair follicles are weak due to the specific type of alopecia that I have, which Nicole claims to be knowledgable about.
My current stylist doesn't claim to be an expert on hairloss, yet is still gentle, kind, and understands that my hair is a lot and simply takes the time to do it skillfully and with common tact and humanity. My hairline is now growing back nicely.
Growing up, my mother never yelled at me or belittled me in frustration while doing my hair. I certainly didn't expect that from someone that I was paying and especially not at a Black hair salon. I will definitely never spend my...
Read moreI went to get my hair trimmed from Sabine back in June (a little late on my review). At first I didn’t have high expectations because prices were so high for just a trim but I was like let me just give it a try. When I called for my appointment I can’t remember who I spoke to but she was very nice especially with us playing phone tag back and forth with her having a client and me being at work. She never got annoyed or frustrated. When I showed up for my appointment I was greeted and told Sabine would be with me in a moment. When Sabine walked in she immediately greeted me and had such a positive glowing spirit surrounding her. Instantly I felt comfortable with her. She washed my hair so gently and it felt AMAZING. She was massaging my head and even her detangling my hair felt like a massage. She took her time and had so much patience. She blow dried my hair and we talked about my hair goals. I told her I want all my split ends gone but slowly (I’m so attached to my hair). She cut enough for a difference but not so much that I was walking out with shoulder length hair. She talked me through the process and continued letting me know throughout what she was doing. I love communication! After the trim I was finished because I didn’t need styling but even with such little done it felt like she did so much and made it worth the money! I can’t wait to go back at the end of August. Sabine definitely has me as a...
Read moreI'm so happy to have found this gem in Brooklyn. I came initially for a consultation and immediately loved the energy from Nicole and the feel of the salon. Nicole really talked to me about the state of my hair and discussed how my health and my hair correlate. I have also met Sabine and she is another beautiful soul. Nicole and Sabine's energy vibes so well it really helps to create a welcoming atmosphere. I also am loving my sister locs so far and happy I chose Sabine's Hallway to take this journey with.
12/21/21 Update: I am still happily getting my sisterlocs done at Sabine's. Nicole is still amazing and the bonus is Brooklyn Perk opened a store downstairs.
4/2/23 Update: Still amazingly great. The shop has made some renovations and the salon chairs have been upgraded (Rolls...
