Salon SCK — Local services in New York

This is such a special salon and after nearly a full year of visiting them, I will be a client for life- that’s how much I value this incredible group of people and the exceptional services they provide. I say group of people because a salon is such a diverse group of talent. You have their incredible creative team of colorists and stylists who cut, color, style, and transform hair, nails, and makeup with incomparable industry pedigree and quality, consistent expertise and skill at every visit. There is also the front desk and hospitality team that greets guests warmly and takes care of needs from bookings, to robes, payments, beverages and beyond, always with a smile. And I’ll get into the world-class ownership group ahead! I often find myself thinking, as I sit in the salon in various areas waiting for my hair to do its thing, about how well run the salon is, and how it is so obvious how much people like working there and that they really care for the clients. I see the employees be so kind and considerate and go the extra mile every time I’m in there. It is somehow completely relaxing being there and also energizing at the same time. It’s really easy to say I have never liked a salon so much and having moved a lot, I’ve tried many across many states. This must be due to the magical alchemy of how special the ownership group is, and the high standards they set for everyone there, including themselves. Reading their bios is like a masterclass in hair expertise and industry history. And yet they are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. It is truly such a special salon with incredible employees across the board. If you’re at all worried about visiting a 5th Avenue NYC salon fearing what attitude might lay ahead, you can be heartened to know that you will be completely at ease and in the most capable, talented and kind hands during your visit. The makeup artist is terrible! You can’t see what she’s doing because you are faced away from the mirror. I would have not have thought I would have to worry in a salon that had good ratings for their hair services but I could not be more disappointed in the makeup services! I get my makeup done professionally three times per week so I know what a professional job looks like. Have an event to go to in NYC and will need to redo my makeup. Greasy face, uneven eye makeup and just overall the worst makeup application ever. Eyeshadow is dark and creasy and is unevenly dark because of the greasy base lotion slopped on all over my face before application that had a burning sensation. She asked if I had anything on my face, and I told her I had already moisturized my face so why did she apply more??? Does not listen to clients request and does not know how to apply eyeliner or cat eye! Eyeliner is uneven and not the same on each side and drawn on like a child using a crayon. Yes, the eyeliner looks like crayon, not precise because of her sloppy application. Blush looks harsh, too, and greasy using a dark color that looks like self tanning lotion! Doesn’t know how to contour nor apply brow liner either. Brows were slopped on with a mascara brush and it shows. To get rid of the greasy feel I complained about she applied a ton of powder and it looks even worse! You can write your name in my face! I rarely write reviews on businesses but I recently had such a great experience at Salon SCK, I felt I had to share.

This week was a work trip in NYC and like most ladies, I much prefer when a stylist blows out my hair for important meetings. I also needed a little TLC for my hair color which was blonder than I wanted.

Luckily for me, Tuesday morning I was able to get into Dallas for my color and Danny for my blowdry A+++!

Dallas actually listened to me and understood what I wanted which sometimes doesn’t happen at a salon. This was our first time meeting which can also be scary. He was charming, funny and gave me the perfect carmel, balayage blonde.

Then his assistant gave me the best shampoo and was so sweet. One of my favorite parts at a salon.

Then onto Danny, loved him! So fun to talk to and my blowdry lasted all week.

On Friday my husband came to the city and we had a date night. Naturally, I needed my hair done again so I came back a second time and saw Clint. He’s a-mazing and easy to talk to, not to mention had great restaurant recos! My blowdry had the perfect amount of volume & bounce and the right amount of curl.

SCK’s attention to detail from the front desk, to the shampoo area, their talented colorists and stylists are all on point. And I love the modern aesthetic of their space. Clean and beautiful!

If I lived here, Salon SCK would absolutely be my salon home. I’ll definitely be back for an appointment in the summer for...
