Scott Jordan Furniture Inc. — Local services in New York

I bought two American Leather microfiber sofas through Scott Jordan, one Quincy with ottoman and one Carson sleeper. Both couches didn't end up being very comfortable, but were well made (aside from the ottoman which was a terrible design, flimsy on its legs from day one). After 7 years being sturdy and firm the bed mechanism on the sleeper sofa became rickety. It had a warranty for 10 years (I hear the warranties offered now are only 5 years) so I had the mechanism replaced. This process took several months and was not very professionally handled, but it got done. Unfortunately the problem remains the same, one section of the couch bed is rickety and makes a clicking sound when sitting on the couch or laying on the bed and repositioning your body. Not great. Apparently American Leather updated their sleeper mechanism on newer couches but this one could not be retrofit to mine so I have no way of knowing if the new mechanism improves the problem I have or not. That being said, the bed is very comfortable and was perfect for 7 years, but now feels cheap and far less sturdy. The design is great for saving space when the bed is open but I'd avoid buying again because it was quite expensive to degrade so quickly and also because the couches themselves are not very comfortable, at least not the two...

Reading the reviews of Scott Jordan here, I wouldn't blame someone for being suspicious they were all written by shills. Looking for furniture in NYC is a minefield, full of high-pressure, upselling salespeople, late deliveries, and empty promises. SJ seems to be too good to be true, but Scott Jordan will restore your faith that there are still businesses with integrity, with a commitment to service as well as to great craftsmanship.

Thanks to Melroy, for guiding me in the showroom, with humor, expertise, and absolutely no pressure. Melroy also offered us a tour of the workshop, which was fascinating. We had a chance to meet Scott and he was kind enough to personally show us around -- I was especially impressed how software makes it much easier to make custom furniture than it used to be. Scott was charming and gracious. I'd be remiss if I didn't add another person who typifies the operation. Thanks so much for your excellent customer service during my entire purchasing process. The delivery men were excellent and I am so glad I purchased from Scott Jordan over Jensen-Lewis where I first went to purchase my sofa beds. Having delivery men who work directly with your organization and have years of expertise in delivering and setting up the beds is appreciated and beneficial. I was impressed that one of the delivery men has been with your organization for 30 years. When I went to Jensen-Lewis they told me I might have to get my own delivery company since I lived in Wilmington, Delaware. This could have been a disaster since any delivery company would not have been familiar with installing and setting up the sleeper sofas properly.
