Possibly the best customer service I have ever had in a grocery store! Some things are noticeably overpriced (even for NYC,) but many sale prices are better than most other stores, which balances out a bit. Too bad there isn't a way to order in advance to pick up groceries.
Ordering groceries online would allow the items to be grabbed, paid for, and set aside so when I got there, I wouldn't have to run through the store to find things. Public transportation to Wegmans is deplorable - there are 3 bus lines that got Wegmans or nearby, but the connections to Jay Street Metrotech or Nevins stations can leave you with a 45 minute to over an hour, with the delays on all bus and subway lines that is the norm. The "45 minute" trip each way from where I am in Brooklyn ended up being 1 hour, 20 minutes in one direction and 1 hour, 50 minutes in reverse. This isn't Wegman's fault, but because you can't order and pay ahead, last time I went, 9 items on my list were sold out, and I would have gone to another store if I knew. My shopping list on the Wegmans app gave me availability before I left, and when I got back into the app in the store, the items were no longer available.
One last thing that is a little bit of a downer (but again, not the fault of that location of Wegman's) is the ratio of Wegman's brand items to national brands (particularly canned goods) makes the trudge to the store also a let down, when a particular brand of certain things is unavailable. The Wegman's brand of different foods are great, for the most part, but there are certain items I only buy in the name brand.
It's my main argument with Trader Joe's (well, that and the fact that you have to wait in a long line just to get in the store at Trader Joe's, which is a deal breaker for me) because for every wonderful item Trader Joe's carries in their own brands, there are 2 or 3 items in the same genre that were a miss for me when trying them, meaning not only did I wait to get into the store, I only picked up a handful of specialty items, and then I have to go to another store for the bulk of my shopping. Wegman's isn't anywhere near that specialized to the point of not being able to finish my shopping at one store. I can competently finish at Wegman's for regular shopping, but holiday shopping is a challenge at all NYC grocery stores, requiring me to go to 5 stores minimum to get the things I need. After the holidays, I will make the trek to Wegman's more often - just not later in the evening or on the weekends when the subway and bus routes are only at 1/3 schedule running. Alternatively, ride shares for Friday and Saturday nights are maxed out almost as much as rush hour in Manhattan, so the Lyft or Uber ride home that is $14 on a weekday afternoon is almost $30 on Friday and Saturday nights, which chips away at the savings you get. Wegman's will be my "day grocery store" going forward.
Thank you to all of the employees at Wegmans who made a night shopping visit very enjoyable, without all of the usual hassle of asking an associate where something is, and them saying "I don't know" and walking away without helping. At other stores, not trying to help me find the item is sad, when they have their store's inventory handheld or being able to ask on the two-way radio where something is (I'm looking at you, Target!) The employees and the managers (not that I was calling for managers - the managers were just available like the associates to augment the ability to assist in the store. I haven't seen that level of customer service in a grocery store in NYC in more than a decade!)
I forgot to write down the names of the managers and associates who helped me. I will make a point to do so next time I shop there. The associates and managers are what really set the bar for the great experience shopping at Wegman's. I'll update with names next time so that the store administration (if they read reviews) can acknowledge those employees for their over and above attitude to helping the customers...
Read moreThis store is a great asset to the neighborhood. It has plenty of unpaid parking as well as parking for the handicap. The parking lot is kept clean they have an outside seating area in case you have to take a quick eat. Inside the store is huge is almost like a warehouse. Isn't that wild? Can you imagine all the food one can put inside a warehouse well that's exactly what this place is like. Isles and aisles of different foods from different companies even someplace from international foods If you don't find what you want the friendly staff members at least ones I encountered with thankful as well as grateful it seemed like to help me. I got the feeling that you were just starving for a customer to ask for their assistance. I like that I really do. So I came across a young lady and this salad bar area her name was Victoria. I'm very pretty young lady who was very well experienced and making sure I got what I wanted. Victoria put together the most awesome salad. She was careful and very clean and was very meticulous as to what she touched while preparing my salad. That makes a difference because why I put on a glove to only touch food if you're reaching for money or anything else? She was very very careful. See the place together a salad that was huge. Her workstation was kept nice and our conversation simply flowed as though we had known each other or had been in one another's presence prior and that is not a fact never matter before. Nonetheless I did not take any pictures this time sorry about that for those of you read my comments on a regular. I cannot say anything negative about this place is situated in a neighborhood that is very hard to find parking but that's made up because they have a parking lot. Just summons everything up I suggest you go down to this huge market yourself. And if you can get there believe you me when I went it was a...
Read moreApproximately 9:35am on June 23,2025 I was at checkout with a cashier. I told the cashier I will bag the items myself. She said ok. I had alot of items. I put some items on belt and the cashier scan some items. I still had items in shopping cart. I was bagging other items that was scanned to get it out the way. One employee upfront came to me and said, Ms you holding up the line and you still have items in cart! I said I know that one thing at a time I can't speed. I have to take my time. The employee upfront roll her eyes an yelled at me you holding the line up. I said ok it's one person have some patience. Then another employee named Casandra came to me and said you have those items in the back of cart. I said I know the other items I just put on belt I'm bagging those first. I said , yall keep rushing me and I have to take my time. I said if you have a problem put them on the belt your self since you want it done so fast. Cassandra stand there looking at me mean. I felt harass and rush.
I shouldn't have to explained my health issue. It is only a very few of employees that know my health issue because they help me bag the items after I had surgery. My right hand was reattach to my right arm. I have screws and plates at right wrist which holds my hand to my arm. Although I do not had 100% strength on right hand. But, I still work, and do my daily activities with kids. I put more weight on my left hand. An try not to do much on my right hand. Sometimes I wear my soft brace on right hand but my doctor said don't wear it all the time because I have to flex my hand more.
I'm very disappointed how I was treated and didn't expect it from them. Or any of them. I felt so harass and rush to do things at...
