The Rare Gem — Local services in New York

My wife Sandy wanted a Russian Alexandrite for our 50th wedding anniversary. She had contacted some high end jewelers who said that they could have some stones sent to them, and she could select from one of those. I did an internet search and found The Rare Gem, a jeweler who specializes in Alexandrites. We live just a few hours from NYC, so we went to their showroom to look at the stones. Justin and his father are the nicest people and their knowledge regarding Alexandrites is tremendous. We received a good education on the history of Alexandrites, current market conditions and how to judge an Alexandrite. Sandy chose a ~4.5 carat Russian stone from their extensive selection of Alexandrites, and Justin called another jeweler who came into the showroom and worked with Sandy to design a ring in the style that she wanted. My fiancée and I made a trip specifically to New York in search of an Alexandrite. I had a list of 3 places to visit and the Rare Gem was the last place on my list to visit. I am so glad I made it my first place to visit instead! Justin was FANTASTIC to work with as he had pulled out some stones that he thought we would like. Very patient with us that day. We did visit one more location after the Rare Gem, but my fiancee and I agreed that Justin had the best of what we were looking for that day and we ended up cancelling the last appointment.
