My partner and I are travel bloggers who love to explore new foods and support local businesses we were very excited to try this place since it’s close to our home but sadly we didn’t have good experience The blond lady who greeted us was nice but the dark haired heavy set lady who took our order came off as rude from the start. She didn’t seem to like that I had questions about what some of the menu items were. I was happy to overlook it but later when w retried to pay we waited a long time to get the check She was on her break I guess eating when I politely asked if we could get the check soon because we needed to go. She scuffed at me and went back to eating. Finally the blond lady who greeted us came back and my partner payed As we were leaving the heavy set woman was outside coming a cigarette or something and aggressively accused my partner of not having payed. I laughed at the audacity and when the blind lady came out the heavy set lady in her native language started complaining about us saying we were laughing at her not realizing my partner u destines their language. The whole experience was off putting and safe to say we will not be coming back. They seemed very nice to other customers who spoke their language but sadly we weren’t treated as kindly. Perhaps they are homophobic or maybe racism (I’m Latino and my partner is Russian ). Either way we didn’t feel welcome Plus the food was just ok and overpriced for the...
Read moreYum yum yum... We just had to stop by here to eat... My Egyptian husband loveeeed the ćevapi.
UPDATE: 5 years later:
The ćevapi are still excellent. Glad they offer two portion sizes. The lady that served me was polite and friendly. That’s all good.
Unfortunately, I do have to offer some constructive criticism. Now what I’m about to say might not matter to most people, so skip over if you don’t care. But this is the type of thing I pay attention to. I sure hope the owners will consider this and make modifications.
I was a little taken aback seeing a a kid go back into the kitchen area to blow his nose (multiple times). 😷I’d say that if owners are set on being that loose with hygiene, then at least don’t do it in front of customers.
Also, the three women that were going back and forth in and out of the kitchen were not wearing a hair net. The lady that was handling the food, wasn’t wearing gloves and she was going between the cash register and handling the food without gloves. Not to mention that I saw her touch her nose and then handle food without gloves. 🫣
But hey, at least there weren’t any flies around, which is a frequent thing in these small mom&pop eateries. So they got that...
Read moreSarajevo has been a main stay in the neighborhood for years. I’ve ordered a few times, but this last takeout order has disappointed mightily. We ordered three items the beef stew, 5 piece cevapi and cheese burek and charged $47. I think we were overcharged and taken advantage of by the owner since the menu online listed the stew as $19, 5 piece cevapi ($10), and cheese burek ($9) post tax that should be way under $47, so something to be wary of.
5 piece Cevapi - remains the mainstay of the restaurant. The meat remains tender and juicy. The only drawback is the lack of flavor and salt (a theme of the review).
Beef stew - I noticed while I waited for my order that they seem to be using a canned beef stew mix and it reflects in the quality of the dish which was served. The soup / goulash was filled more with beans and peppered with bits of beef instead of the robust chunks in prior orders. It was very liquidity and not as thick as before. Once again the soup base lacked depth of flavor and had to add in my salt for my liking.
Cheese Burek - flaky and delicous. The soft cheese pairs well with the layers of crisp dough. The only downside was the lack of flavor / salt...
