I used to come here often when I was in high school, and the former owners were artists that understood artist needs. The current owners seem a little out of touch. If you have the fortune of finding someone to help you get what you need, they don't seem to understand what really basic art supplies are for or that they even exist.. and also have very limited range of supply. Then if you are lucky enough to find what you need, and someone to ring you up at the register within an hour of when you walked in the door; I've had this experience twice where the sticker price is changed verbally to something outrageously high by the cashier because "those sticker prices are from 1924". The last time I went I needed tracing paper, and found 8.5x11" sheets in a drawer labeled 25¢ per sheet, and grabbed some larger sheets that were about 11x17", and a sheet of drafting paper too.. when I got to the register the guy told me 'how about we say' $2 a sheet?' mind you regardless of the size or the paper type.. I challenged te price bc they sell a pad of 25 sheets of 8x11 tracing paper for $5.. but insisted that price was wrong too đ If I wasn't in a bind, I would have left everything at the register and left. I don't see myself patronizing this...
Read moreWent to this place with my partner simply because we found a Groupon. Their prices are extremely high, ($30 -$60) for simple ceramic pieces to paint on. the place is crammed tight with small tables, you most likely will knock something over. Not a good atmosphere or vibe itâs extremely quiet and awkward. The bathroom is extremely dirty, stinky and small, the sink doesnât even work. We had no instructor helping or guiding us on how to paint the ceramics but when a group of people walked in to participate in a pottery class ( in the back of the store) they had a person leading them the entire time. The Groupon we bought said it would be a âGUIDED SESSION FOR TWOâ but we had NO ONE. The person at the register just stood on their phone talking the entire time, and I had to basically interrupt their phone call so they can come help us out. Therefore we used a lot of our time just figuring things out.
The walk there was terrible as well, would NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.
Also when we got there I saw an unhappy family of 3 walk out before we got to sit down, I shouldâve read the reviews before going to...
Read moreI set up a 60 minute couples pottery class and didnât expect much from it. I was beyond surprised!
We arrived early, and were able to browse some of the art store while we waited. Think Michaels craft store, but locally owned, operated and with an actual soul.
Monique was our pottery instructor. Monique was so warm, funny and helpful that I was able to actually make something useful from the mound of clay that I started with. We asked and they were even happy to take a video on my phone where we re-enacted Ghost (basic, but always funny).
We received options for what to do with our pieces after too.
Iâm a guys guy. I like cigars, scotch and reading. This wasnât just one of those silly activities I did with the lady to take up a weekend morning. I had fun, met some great people, and got to use my hands to create something with meaning and memories.
Well worth the trip from Manhattan, and beyond worth the money.
Also, if you go, good luck doing...
