This owner is in business for many years feeding Jews with taref meat. Yesterday, I bought a lot of meat thinking it was kosher. The owner showed me a certificate that is fake. Several Rabbis did not recognize it. The owner himself said it was kosher but not glad kosher. If it is not gad kosher it is not kosher at all as per Torah. I luckily sold most of the meat to a non Jew and asked the owner if he would take the tongue and sweet breads back. He said OK. When I sent my daughter to get a refund, he yelled at her and send her home crying that he wouldn't take it and that it is disgusting. He sold it to me in the same condition. This means to me that he also sells disgusting tongues. His prices are very expensive for a new store also. Therefore, under any circumstances and at all cost I strongly Do Not recommend for anyone ( not just a Jew) to buy out of him and his restaurant Cheburechnaya on 63 Drive Rego Park. This is not out of anger or revenge. This is to do the right thing for G-d's sake for well being of his chosen people....
Read moreVery mom and pop feel to this Israeli shop. Everyone behind the counter are always super super nice and very patient with me. They have a great selection of Israeli goods you cannot find in surrounding markets. Also, their bakery foods which is made on-site is delicious. I really enjoy their felafel sandwiches and their homemade pita (which is much better than the store-bought packaged pitas), and they only charge me $5 for a whole sandwich. They also have a wonderful shakshuka breakfast which is tasty. Also, a nice selection of pareve meals you can take home for Shabbos, fresh every time. Delicious fish, dips, etc. The store can get really busy closer to Shabbos (starting Thursday) so they may not be able to prepare the food, you may have to do it yourself. Ask and they will answer your questions. If you're there near the end of the week, be patient, and if you don't need Shabbos food, come in the first half of the week so they can prepare you a breakfast or lunch. Also, Purim time, they have large delicious assortment of hamantaschen, so...
Read moreThis is a one of a kind place that makes its own spice and seasoning mixtures as well as hummus, eggplant and other dips and salads. They also make their own schug, which is excellent.
They have fresh lafa and baghrir, often still warm from the oven, and can anyone name another place that regularly makes shakshuka to go? There is vegetable soup every day as well.
There are also more than a few Israeli grocery items that are rare finds in the U.S. Everything is reasonably priced, and the house made stuff is restaurant quality, or better.
The owner is very accommodating and friendly, as is everyone else there.
