This place has a shabby look, rather poor service, but don't judge the book by its cover. It's a fashionable restaurant that charges 6 dollars for a single pickle and another 20 for a vegetable mixture they called salads (multiple). This mixture consisted of half of a fresh onion, 6 cherry tomatoes, tiny piece of pickled cabbage and another tiny piece of pickled something I could not identify. I don't remember how much I paid for the rather stale and warmed up bread and rather thinly spread of hummus, but I am pretty sure they were not cheap either. Finally, I had three skewers of lamb, which by the standards of this place were moderately priced at 15 dollars. For all that plus a can of Coke and black coffee I paid 42 dollars. When I told her my opinion of the quality-price ratio of her establishment, the hostess (a generous term in her case) reciprocated by calling me an informer in Russian, assuming apparently that I would not understand. So, in the spirit of this title, I inform people who interested in eating there that they most likely may find a better...
Read moreFood here is good, come here sometimes for lunch as it’s within walking distance of work. Giving the food here 3 stars from my last visit and will show breakdown below:
Bread (2 stars) - a little bit old tasting, definitely not fresh.
Salad (4 stars) - fresh and simple solid salad with great seasoning.
Lagman with pelmeni (1 star) - this was literally a bowl of hot water with pelmeni, cheap noodles and parsley. No flavor and a disappointment.
Fried pelmeni (3 stars) - have had much better fried pelmeni at nadezdha, azia, Samarkand etc.
Riblets (4 stars) - flavor was great on these as with most of their shashlik, would be 5 stars if all pieces came with meat on them, some pieces have no meat on them.
Skirt steak (5 stars) - seasoned and done perfect.
Liver (4 stars) - great liver this time, however I’ve come other times and was not as good.
Service here is good as they do try and care about serving you promptly however owners are sometimes yelling or fighting in front of customers and doesn’t seem so...
Read moreBEST FOOD IN New York!!! We come as a family every week if we can. We don't live in Brooklyn but the hour drive is so worth it. People who are putting one star are probably used to fancy restaurants with horrible food. This is a small family operated restaurant that has the best skewers. I go to so many places but nothing compares to their food. They do not marinate their meat or chicken at all like other places. Everything they offer just has salt but tastes better than any restaurant I have been in. They get. very busy sometimes, but it is worth the wait!!! I try to make skewers at home and it does not even taste half as good and I use the same charcoal. Their prices are good compared to other places. Meat is getting more expensive (especially kosher meat), but they are fair with their prices.I have been coming here for over 20 years with my family, and WE ALL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! Highly recommended !!...
