Captain Blue Hen’s made this year’s Free Comic Book Day an unforgettable experience. I walked away with two stellar titles: Blood Type, a stunning revival of the legendary EC Comics horror/sci-fi line, and Tales from the Energon Universe, a thrilling entry in the new shared G.I. Joe/Transformers world. The storytelling and genre diversity were so strong, it felt like I should have paid for these.

The in-person interaction was refreshing—a reminder of why supporting local shops matters. There’s something grounding and real about handing over physical cash instead of going digital, especially in an age when financial choices can be tracked or restricted by larger forces. Captain Blue Hen’s isn’t just a comic shop—it’s a sanctuary for physical media, genre diversity, and real human connection.

This shop is bar none the best comic shop I've ever been to. If you're new to comics there's always a helpful & friendly member of staff to make recommendations, which often leads to discussions about related titles that can lead to more precise recommendations (or just more fun purchases!). Everyone who works there is a gem!

CBH always has fresh new releases, but they also have an extensive selection of back issues & showcase books to check out, too. Anything from a long lost piece of your childhood to a memory you thought long-forgotten is probably right there waiting for you to find it among the stacks.

The first time I walked into Captain Blue Hen was my first day of attending UD. I've been back (almost) monthly since to get my books.

Joe has made this place one of the best comic book stores in the country. Over the decade+ that I've been a customer I've never had a negative experience in Captain Blue Hen. Between the Free Comic Book Day parties and the various holiday flea markets they are always on the look out to make comics an event. The selection of pop culture related odds and ends is always being added to, and the creator signings are always fun. They're always reaching out or letting me know about upcoming books I might be interested in.
