Casa Kahlo has been a breath of fresh air—it’s rare to find such thoughtfully authentic Mexican food and drinks right here in Newark, Delaware. Every dish we’ve tried has been bursting with bold, rich flavor and served in generous portions (you’ll likely be leaving with leftovers!). The quality is consistently top-notch, and the passion behind the food truly shines through.
As the restaurant continues to grow, adding new cooks and staff, I’d just encourage a continued focus on consistency to maintain the high standards they’ve clearly set. That said, I’ve never had a personal issue—nor witnessed one—that wasn’t immediately and professionally addressed by the attentive team. Their menu is ambitious and robust, and I applaud them for always striving to get it right.
Now let’s talk drinks: the cocktails at Casa Kahlo are next level. Yes, some of the specialty drinks may be priced slightly above what you’d find at other spots, but the quality justifies every penny. The handcrafted margaritas and cocktails are beautifully presented, generously poured, and taste as incredible as they look, with REAL, quality ingredients. And if you’re watching your tab, there’s also a solid selection of well-priced beers and seltzers to keep things budget-friendly.
Beyond the dining experience, Casa Kahlo transforms into one of the most vibrant nightlife spots in the area. Between live music, DJs, and themed events, there’s always something going on —and the energy on the dance floor is electric. The crowd skews younger during the school year, but it’s a welcoming and inclusive environment where I’ve always felt comfortable and at home, no matter the time of day.
Lastly, a special shoutout to Justin, one of Casa Kahlo’s standout bartenders. His warm smile and infectious energy make every visit memorable. He’s a true artist behind the bar and takes real pride in his craft. Honestly, every staff member I’ve met has been kind, welcoming, and committed to making sure guests leave full, happy, and already planning their next visit.
I always walk out of Casa Kahlo feeling better than when I walked in—and that’s something truly special. Thank you to the Casa Kahlo family!

Read moreMy Constructive Criticism for the Restaurant
This was my first time visiting the place, and everything was very nice. The tables had very comfortable seats, and the waitress was very pleasant. I ordered a Puerto Rican sancocho and noticed that it didn’t come with rice or the vegetables that this type of dish typically includes. I informed the waitress, and she responded that she could sell me a side of rice. I then showed her the promotional photo, which stated that the sancocho includes rice and tostones. She went to speak with the cook, who told her that rice was not included, but she showed him the photo where it clearly states what is included in the dish along with its price.
Later, she brought me Mexican rice, which is not the correct type for this dish—it should be white rice. I also mentioned that the dish should include corn on the cob, as shown in the picture, but it was missing as well. Even so, the sancocho had a good flavor, and they provided a very tasty hot sauce to go with it.
My wife ordered chicken tacos, but they lacked flavor. Additionally, the onions and cilantro came in a takeout container, which took away from the presentation of the dish. My suggestion is to serve the dish already assembled instead of separating the ingredients in takeout containers.
I tried to speak with the owner, but he was busy with a restaurant inspection, and I believe he was not informed that a customer wanted to offer a suggestion.
All in all, I would visit again, but I would like to see these...
Read moreThis is a wonderful restaurant in an unimpressive shopping center where you would last expect even an above-average dining experience. My husband and I love Mexican food, and prepare many dishes at home. Tonight, I enjoyed their Camarones a La Diabla, shrimp that was not overcooked in a somewhat spicy guajillo chile sauce, served with rice, beans and salad. (Sorry, no picture). My husband had the Carnitas Dinner, which was a huge serving of delicious pork stewed in an interesting sauce, along with customary sides of rice, beans and salad. Extra points for serving dressing on the side. If I were making either dish, I probably would have served with Arroz Blanco, dressed up with a little peas and corn, rather than rice colored with tomato. My margarita was delicious, prepared in the sangria method, and served with a festive array of fruit under a little umbrella, not usually my style of drink, but quite delightful. The service was excellent and the staff was warm and friendly. We look forward to becoming regulars at Casa Kahlo, only a few miles...
