This location cancelled my registration for a free intro class simply because I'm a college student. The employee that I spoke to on the phone informed me that they don't allow college students to take the intro classes because they don't believe college students have the financial means to purchase a membership.
My conversation was along these lines: Employee: “Our intro classes are meant for potential members serious about committing to a membership” Me: “I was interested in purchasing a membership if I liked the intro class” Employee: “You were going to pay $193/month for a membership” Me: “Well yes, if I liked it.”
Furthermore, the employee I spoke to told me that this studio considers all college students to be “disruptive,” and explicitly told me that I should consider going to places like OrangeTheory or Pure Barre instead.
I live around the area and was genuinely considering taking classes here if I liked the intro class, but not anymore. It is discriminatory for a business to offer a free class and then filter registrations, canceling those based on age or student status. A business' right to refuse service cannot legally extend to age, and I was clearly denied service because of my age, and in correlation, my perceived ability to purchase a membership. I've reported this business to the state. I was under the impression that pilates is for everybody, but clearly no one under the age of 30 is welcomed at this location. To any young adult considering Club Pilates - do not come to this Newtown...
Read moreJoining Club Pilates was the best decision I made for myself going into 2024. Pilates has helped me grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. As someone who struggles with an autoimmune disorder, practicing pilates has helped strengthen my joints and allowed me to overcome everyday inflammation hurdles. I would love to give a huge shoutout to both instructors: Brooke and Kim. Since the very beginning of my pilates journey, they have continously pushed me to become stronger and challenge myself. They have seen me fail but have also been there for the moments where it just finally clicked! They helped ignite my passion for pilates. I wouldn't be where I am currently at in my Pilates journey without them. Most recently, Kim hosted an Ugly Christmas Sweater Friday night class. It truly felt like an energetic fun sleepover with some of my strongest friends. I look forward to taking other fun themed classes in the future ! It is very difficult to describe the community I have built at Club Pilates. When you walk through those doors, there isn't a single person in the studio that doesn't want to see you succeed. It is not a competitive environment. We truly all support each other both on and off of the reformer. I am grateful I get to practice pilates with some of the strongest men and women I have gotten to know over the last year. I cannot wait to see what my pilates journey looks...
