It's a gym. I signed up in february of 2015 and my contract was something like a $70 startup fee + a $50 annual fee + $10/month. Some of my friends have gotten even worse contracts, especially with the $20/month deal. On top of paying extra money, it has a cancellation fee of somewhere around $80. Regardless of what you sign up for, they charge you the first annual fee three months after you sign up so you'll feel too invested to cancel the membership that you don't use. Moral of the story: If you're only in it to lose weight, start jogging outside regularly and diet; you don't need to hand your money to these sociopaths so you can walk on a useless treadmill.
When it comes to equipment, there is a large variety of it and you'll have no problem finding a weight lifting routine (Though I heard they removed their punching bags since I've cancelled my membership and that's the reason I haven't renewed it). The only problem I've had with equipment was individuals reserving half of the gym's worth of equipment and the staff not doing anything about it, as well as free weights being removed and not replaced for months at a time. I complained to the staff about one of their missing 20lb dumbbells for three months until someone went to Academy and bought a new one.
I had one small corporate issue where they double-charged me for the annual fee, but corporate repayed that which they took (But not the overdraft fee they triggered.)
Pros: Lots of equipment, AC, decent price, friendly staff sometimes. Cons: Unethical business practice, lots of traffic, apathetic staff, not 24 hours on weekends.
edit: The cancellation fee was meant for the $20 membership, I'll fix it. I'll stand by the rest, however. I have long since cancelled my membership and I don't plan on getting a new one, there's no issue to resolve. I'd rather jump off of a bridge instead of dealing with corporate again. Your business practice of having a large startup fee + annaul fee after three months is purely unethical and designed to trap new people into keeping the membership they don't use. It's even worse with the $20 membership. Your salespeople push the $20 membership heavily on to people who don't need it (I assume for commission) and those people later complain to me about how they can't cancel because they can't afford the fee. The dumbell you used to replace the one that went missing for months was off brand compared to the rest of the bells on the rack. I found the same brand at Academy. The fact you're telling me that "free weights were not removed" tells me you're either...
Read moreI was so excited to start my weight loss journey and I thought 10 gym was going to be the place to help me do that. Not only was it affordable, but it was convenient too. I joined online and went In that evening to finish up the rest. Just stepping foot across the threshold was a big deal for me. I'm not you athletic girl or jock walking in. I was the person who got up off her couch and was more determined than ever to reach my goals. So I sit down with the employee and he flipped through the pages "sign here and there and okay I need a copy of your license etc..." so then he got to the part he cared about more. How could he get me to sign up for personal training sessions. I let him have his spill, but I wasn't ready for that just yet. So fast forward about 20 days. I've been bringing a friend and she has helped me stay accountable. Until one day she forgot her license and they wouldn't let her excercise with me. Although she had been there almost everyday with me. So she went home and I stayed. I wanted someone to show me how to work a specific machine. So I asked the same guy who signed me up to help me. He came over there and half way showed me how to do it and walked off. So my confidence was shattered. I came back the next day and from the moment I stepped through the door I didn't feel comfortable there anymore. But I knew that I had signed up for a 12 month contract. I kept my end of the deal and paid it on time every month. So here it is january 2017 and I thought that last month was my last month for my $21 to be auto debuted. Turns out it came out for January too. So I called the local gym and they gave me the number to ABC Financial Services. They informed me that my contract auto renewed and I would need to give a 30 day notice written/verbally and I would be responsible for any charges within that window. So I'm off 9 days from that and I have to pay the annual fee plus the regular month charge. No ifs ands or buts about it. They were so rude to me on the phone. Why can't 10 Gym send out reminders. I guess that's how they get their money. So I'm very frustrated, thought about getting a permit to picket the gym. But on a brighter note I have lost a significant amount of weight and it's sad that 10 gym isn't part of that story. But it was my motivation to go elsewhere. So I advise you to not contract with them! Go else where and you will find a club that will...
Read moreEdit 2: For the love of God, do NOT trust this gym! They will say whatever they can to cheat you out of more money. They will pressure you to sign up for their training. But don't. Oh God, don't! Save your money, find somewhere else.
Edit 1: Editing now since I tired to cancel a month after joining (I got too busy and didn't have the money I thought I would due to school,) and working with this gym has been utter hell since!
I signed up for a monthly training program for 120 dollars, when I asked to cancel I was told to pay 300 dollars to cancel! And no, they didn't tell me when I signed up, just hid it in the contract. I tried to talk with my trainer about this, but it would take weeks to hear back from his supervisor to even tell me anything. Those weeks became months which costed me more money.
Finally I canceled back in October and paid a November fee (due to a 30 day wait to actually cancel,) but now they say I have to pay a December fee? I called them again and they said they would call me with a solution by the end of the day. That was back in December, I have not heard from them since. I gave them their cancelation money and my final month of my membership. I still don't get why they are claiming I have an extra charge.
This was my first time ever at a gym. I'm overweight and wanted to feel better about myself by trying to get healthier. I knew nothing about gyms and thought I could finally learn more. Now I don't feel accepted at all unless I have money. This place has caused me to never want to trust gyms again.
Do NOT go to this place. The front desk workers are friendly, but the prices are not worth it in the long run, especially with the stress it had caused me.
Save your money and mental health. Go somewhere else!
(Below is og review I gave when I first signed up)
The place is very clean and welcoming. I just met with a trainer, John, who was very sweet about where I need to be and what to do on my journey. He gave me the guidance I really needed to get started. And during our chats about what to do asked if I wanted to have thing sugar coated or given to me straight. I told him to give things to me straight, and that I may cry, but it's fine, and he was super comforting about it. When I was looking for a gym I was super nervous and anxious, but John made me feel welcomed...
