Be EXTREMELY careful purchasing unless it says “like new”. Read the T&C, several items I’ve purchased as open box have been broken. This leads you to purchase the membership or buyer assurance to ensure a return option. If it doesn’t say “like new” on the description make sure you go see the item in person or have a return option
I have had a couple auctions now that have sold for very low prices, one I’ve bid and won and another I did not win. Both came up for bid within 2-3 days after and the explanation from MacBids was that companies use the same UPC’s sometimes for different products, which is not true. The picture provided in this review clearly shows an older auction product, the picture shows a yellow sticker with an old auction sticker showing Auction #255 but the current auction showing #12. This specific item has been up now 3 times, the picture proves it has been relisted. The first time this item sold it was for $93 and I missed the end of the auction due to the site showing wrong auction ending time, it was relisted and then sold for over $700 as I was bidding.
This is my personal opinion, I believe if you get a really good deal on an item that you win the item gets “lost” then is relisted which in my experience has gone for a much higher price. I have seen when waiting in the office for a purchase m@c bid employees bidding on items while on the clock in the office. This did not provide trust these auctions are on the up and up.
I will say I have purchased a few items that have worked out well. I got a decent deal on a TV however there was an issue when picking up the sticker was on the wrong device. I identified the error in the listing and found the correct TV in the office which they agreed to.
Ultimately, if you have the time to inspect the item before bidding DO IT, know where the item is and take pictures. Otherwise you shouldn’t bother because you’ll likely end up with something you can’t use, auction not listed as “like new” will more than likely be damaged and if you don’t purchase the additional buyers assurance or are a member with returns available you are...
Read moreThis is just my own experience and it's not for me. I'm sure there are plenty of people who make it work and good for them.
In my opinion, this is a business concept built for people professionally buying and re-selling. For those of us just trying to find some good deals on things for ourselves, buyer beware.
I really wanted to like this company. Love the concept and they do have some great prices. I had about a 50% success rate when buying items offer the course of two months. It's a 50/50 chance for the item to be usable. So, basically, you have to always buy the Buyer's Assurance unless you're okay with taking the chance of throwing away money.
Also, my advice is to READ EVERY LINE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS and to go into it knowing that the products are about a 50/50 chance of being usable.
They have a LOT of fees and special cases and rules that end up making the prices not all that great, especially for the 50% of items that are damaged or missing parts.
At first, I got hit with fees that I didn't know about. Shame on me for that at the beginning. I guess I didn't read closely enough.
But then it kept happening. I thought I was being thorough about reading when making transactions, but I continued to get unanticipated fees for subtly different situations.
Some other things:
1.) The Android app is terribly under performant during peak bidding times. Hangs continuously and sometimes makes it impossible to even bid at peak times.
2.) Customer service is closed on weekends and non-business hours.
3.) Pickup times are WAY too restrictive. I'm sure they are doing this to "force" people to buy the membership, which is cost effective if you are buying things professionally to resell.
4.) Several of my items were damaged but not marked as such in the app. Their response? You can come look at the item before you buy it.
5.) Many times the pictures don't match the item. So, again, you have to read every little line in the app, which sometimes isn't possible when you're bidding with two minutes left to make a decision.
Again, I'm glad others are able to make this work for them. Wish I...
Read moreI have used Mac Bids previously and typically have had an ok experience. A loyal customer previously but will not be returning now. I have never left a poor review even with bad experiences however the lack of understanding and customer service that was displayed before I had even got a chance to speak was unacceptable. I had 6 (yes 6) items I had won and the mall in which Mac Bids is located had a water main break and was closed , I was not aware they remained open during this. I went to pick up my items not even 24 hours after my deadline, after the mall had reopened and was told they would not give them to me ! The woman at the “customer service” table was extremely rude ( not to mention not well kept) when I asked about them being closed, she stated they had remained open and they gave me more than enough time to pick them up. She also stated I could have placed a hold on them for a fee. When looking at the fees after I returned home, I would have paid more than what I paid for the 6 items combined and I did not feel I should have to pay to hold them if the building was closed. She also stated if I had paid for a monthly membership or insurance then they could refund my money but otherwise I’m out of luck. I have never been late paying or picking up my items and have always recommended Mac Bids to others but I suppose being a loyal customer doesn't matter. Due to a misunderstanding about the building being shut down they just took my money and gave me nothing in return. Are they now going to resell those items ? Extremely poor customer service & bad business practice. I will not be returning and I will advise others to...
