I am not one to usually write reviews, whether good or bad, but I feel the need to share my experience and thoughts regarding this Clothes Mentor. I have shopped and sold items at this Clothes Mentor dozens of times since I was probably in high school. I’ve even supported this store through Covid-19 when they mainly sold online. As a customer of over 6+ years, I would have never expected to be treated and talked to like I recently was while in store.
Some background info here, I have brought sometimes 5 large “tjmaxx” bags of clothing at once and never had any issues or problems with selling my items. And previously was very pleased with the amount I would receive for my clothing (which has also changed recently, but that’s not why I’m writing my review).
Most recently about 2 weeks ago, I brought in 3 bags of items for myself and then 1 bin of clothes for my mother who happens to have cancer and is very low energy. While I thought I was doing my mother a favor by helping to sell her clothes, the exchange I had on this particular day was so unexpected and disappointing. Clearly I did not tell this manager or employee the backstory as to why I was selling my mothers clothing, nor do I feel like it was any of their business anyways. But you do NOT talk to your customers like I was.
When I came in, first, I was very disappointed because two employees clearly saw me struggling to open the front doors to get my things inside. Neither one of them offered to open a door for me. Once I got my items inside and set down someone at the register began signing me in to sell. She was actually very nice and respectful. The lady sitting on a stool by the left side of the store, buying clothes in, is however the reason I’m writing this review.
As I was getting signed in I asked aloud to the person helping me if I could please do two separate buys, since 1 would be for my mother I didn’t want the items to be mixed up. Before the person helping me could even answer my question the lady on the stool whipped her head around and said no they can’t do that. I kindly asked why, and she said “we have no way of keeping your items separated”. I then respectfully said ok, told her that I actually worked at uptown cheapskate colleyville where I was a manager for 2 years, and when we had people who wanted to do that it was no issue whatsoever and if we wanted to be sure to keep them separate we would write “buy 1/2 and buy 2/2” on the receipt that they stick on the bags/bins. She then very loud and rudely said “well that’s not how we do things around here”. I was more so sharing my experience and a solution that, to me, seems quite easy.
I was then told “you can’t sell more than 3 bags of clothing at once anyways, sooo… sorry.” Since the entire store was looking at me at this point, probably 3-4 customers up front and 3-4 employees all upfront, I decided to just leave my 3 bags of clothings and bring my moms back at a later time.
Again, I have previously brought two sets of buys in to this exact store and had 0 issues.
This specific manager needs some serious self awareness as she yells loudly at her customers in front of many people in a small store. I was VERY embarrassed, and I didn’t do anything wrong. I should not have been made to feel like that in public especially as such a loyal previous customer.
I will NEVER bring anything to sell here ever again. I know two other friends who have brought things in to sell and shopped here. They both said recently the employees have no customer service skills and are rude.
What a shame to be losing your loyal customers due to the actions of your employees. I will choose to sell my items elsewhere...
Read moreI have been in this store a couple of times and had odd experiences but never thought anything of it until my most recent visit. I took a large bag of clothing in, some brand new with tags, never worn. 10 minutes after my drop off, I got a call that my offer was ready to be picked up. At that time, I was pleased with their speed. When I arrived to pick up my offer, I was told that they would not be buying any of my items. It hardly appeared that my clothing had been looked through at all as it seemed they were placed in the same condition I dropped them off in. The girl giving me my items back was clearly new and the woman standing next to her let her know that NB meant “No Buy”. That women then proceeded to tell me that my items were “not in style”. I am not at all bothered by the fact that none of my items were purchased. I am bothered by the way in which I was spoken to. I feel there are kinder ways of telling customers the reasoning for not taking items. It was also off putting that they had a new employee and were teaching this language of speaking to customers. Overall, terrible customer service and I will be moving my...
Read moreThis is my least favorite location in the metroplex. I find the least amount of high end brands here and often when I try on the items I find out they have huge holes or damage to them which is very disappointing. I do find a hidden gem from time to time. Most of the staff has great customer service though, especially the taller manager. The older manager (Pam?) does not however. She also doesn't seem to know designer brands which is off putting when I want to sell. I no longer sell to this location due to their lower offers than other locations. They also will not honor returns from other stores despite having everything in order. They say they do but then refuse when they feel like the item is not in season or it is something they don't feel is good enough for their location. That shouldn't be taken out on me, the customer. All the locations are so strict with their 7 day return policy that it has caused me to be out money when I can't make it back across DFW to the original location. Either accept returns like you say you do, or don't advertise that you accept returns from...
