My husband and I went yesterday evening, a Saturday, for dinner. We were very excited to try it out for the first time because it's right around the corner from our house & we love sushi. The decor and atmosphere are nice & we were warmly greeted at the door. We decided to try the all-you-can-eat menu for $30.99 so that we could try various items. We went with the Ahi Tower & Avo Tuna for our appetizers. Both were good. We then ordered a few of their specialty rolls: Texas Roll, Lovely Roll, Rainbow Roll & the Hot Night Roll. The waitress asked if we liked tempura, and suggested the Basswood Roll. We like spicy, and all but the Rainbow roll are marked as spicy on the menu. They were not even close to being spicy. Even the wasabi was not spicy. Speaking of the wasabi, it is available on your table in a little metal jar. Great idea in theory for those of us who like extra wasabi, but the thought of other people trying to get the stuck on paste off of the little spoon by using a fork or chopstick that has been in someone's mouth made me cringe. But that's a whole other discussion... Back to the sushi...we REALLY wanted to like it, but unfortunately, it was not the best. We hope this will change with time and feedback. The Texas Roll was different because it was wrapped with seared torch truffle steak. It was actually good. But, it has what most of the other rolls have, crabmeat with mayo, so that was the flavor that stood out most. The Basswood was also different because it is a tempura roll. It was good, but probably wouldn't order again. Like the others, it had the same overpowering mayo taste. The Lovely Roll is displayed like little hearts, while very cute, this was probably the worst sushi roll I've ever eaten, and I've never had a bad sushi roll. I think it was the soy paper that it's wrapped in that gave it a bitter taste. We really had to choke that one down. One good thing I can say about it, is that it does not have the overpowering mayo taste since it was the one roll we ordered that did NOT have crabmeat in it. The Hot Night roll was good, but again, not spicy at all, even with the jalapeño slices & Sriracha on top. We liked the cucumber wrap, but just like the other rolls , the crabmeat with the mayo tended to over power the other flavors. While we aren't fans of their sushi, we are glad we tried Takara & hope they succeed. We will probably be back, just not for the sushi. Maybe the...
Read moreCame here for the first time with friends on a Sunday. We were a party of 14 Polynesian people so we ate a lot. We ordered the all-you-can-eat All-Day buffet which meant, it was the $32 buffet to include dinner no matter the time of day. They have a lot choices to choose from such as various sushis, ramen bowls, appetizers, side dishes, and desserts. My friends and I were smashing tons of sushi, a ridiculous amount of the Japanese short ribs, fried soft shell crab, and ice cream mochi which were all expensive items lol. I know we definitely made our made money. This place probably lost money because of us. They have these rules that only allow you to order certain things 1-3 items at a time which I think is a ridiculous rule. I get that people shouldn’t waste food so if they do then I think the restaurant should charge them extra, but I think they should allow us to order 5 items at a time or something. Perhaps it’s a strategy to make you wait so the food settles in your tummy and you get full faster lol. On top of that, their portions for certain things, were super small like the peppered steak, they literally gave us 2-3 thin slices of steak which was cold too. I don’t know, but it didn’t work. Majority of the food we ate were very flavorful, some were ok and cold. The salmon sashimi, fried shrimp tempura, fried calamari, eel or unagi nigiri, were amongst the many things we ordered. They also have a menu if you don’t want to eat the buffet. Overall, food is slightly above average.
Staff are friendly, but you can tell, at least thats the way we felt lol, that they wanted us to stop eating and leave already because we were destroying all the food we ordered and kept on ordering lol. Lots of parking and...
Read moreBeing in Dallas, I expected more from a Japanese all you can eat restaurant. We have one very similar in my small town of Wichita Falls and I was expecting something better from this restaurant. Unfortunately I could not find it. I'm a spicy tuna person when it comes to sushi rolls. I ordered different types of tuna rolls and they all came with the same ground up goop inside. I am not sure what it was but definitely did not taste like genuine tuna fish to me. When I ordered spicy tuna rolls, all I got was plain rolls with tuna-like goop inside with spicy mayonnaise drizzled on top. Ordered so called golden tuna roll. Yup, the same roll with a thin slice of mango on top and sweet something drizzled right out of a mango flavor bottle. Their Sashimi is a tad better but do not order anything other than regular tuna and salmon sashimi. I tried 6 different types during my visit. Others were disappointing.
Soda choices are abysmal. If you are a sugar free soda drinker, all you have is diet pepsi. Not even pepsi zero sugar, let alone any decaf carbonated drinks.
The menu doesn't have too much to offer, even compared to my small town AYCE Japanese restaurant, it was very low number of selections. Their price is very comparable to my small town restaurant, like with in a dollar difference for dinner.
After all is said and done, it was a ho-hum experience. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit this...
