A few weeks ago I went to this grocery store and I took my mother in law with me, we live in the same house but I live upstairs so we have 2 families. We were using 1 cart for both of our groceries because we were going to pay separately and she got 1 gallon of milk because the limit was 1 and I got 2 because I was going to ask the cashier if I can get one with WIC because they give me 3 gallons of milk and I wanted to pay for 1. I didn't see an employee around so thats why I grabbed 2 so I can ask the cashier before trying to get 2 milks. This Caucasian staff lady came up to me really rude and yelled "There's a limit to 1 milk." I said "I have Wic can I pay for 1" she said "It doesn't matter" she had a nasty attitude, the way she talked to me, she could've handled it differently. So I put 1 milk back. The cashier was nice it was an older African American lady but as I was in line, that rude lady walked up and she was trying to bag my groceries just because she saw me in line. I guess because we had 2 milks in 1 cart. I asked the cashier, "I just want to make sure, can I use wic for 1 milk and pay for another" in front of that lady so she can hear me because she could've been lying for all I know. And that rude lady blurts out 1 per household. It's ok though my mother and law and I still got 1 milk each because we have 1 per household and, we paid separately. The crazy thing is that rude lady left as soon as she answered my question that I asked the cashier not her, she didn't even finish bagging my groceries. I bet she's been rude to other shoppers. Next time I see her, if I see her being rude I will report her to her manager. I should've that day but I didn't...
Read morePlease tell me that Van Til's does not condone the service and the "attitude" that Stephanie in customer service give out to customers. I was with my mother while my mother was paying for the catering provided by Van Tils for my father's funeral luncheon. The Deli personnel were phenomenal with taking the time and patience with my mother. That all changed when we were at the customer service counter. First of all, no one was ahead of us or anyone waiting behind us in line. Stephanie acted as if it were a bother to wait on us. My mother asked if there would be a problem with writing out two separate checks, since the orders were for two separate dates. Stephanie never replied. My mother paid for the first order with a check. After my mother wrote the second check for payment, Stephanie told us that the computer would not accept the second check. Reason told...that the first check was such a large amount. We did previously ask Stephanie, but getting no reply, we thought it would be okay. This upset my mother, she started crying, while Stephanie stood there with check for payment in her hand. No apologies, no offer on what to do, just standing there. We finally paid and left. Before we left the gentleman from the Deli that was helping us apologized for the way Stephanie acted. I have told several other Van Til"s customers of our interaction with Stephanie and I have gotten nothing but negative comments about Stephanie. My mother and I have both worked in customer service. Read more3 years ago, I left a glowing review of this store. Tonight, I'm changing as this has changed so much since then. I shop here regularly and I've noticed a steep decline in quality of food and friendliness of the staff. I've been holding back my opinion because everything is "due to covid", but that is no longer a satisfactory excuse for me. Yesterday was the absolute last straw for me. First of all, the workers there that are supposed to be stocking are in actuality just chit chatting with one another while blocking the way with their carts. They are using foul language and behaving like rowdy children. While I was trying to select a steak, the young man stocking the meat counter literally just cut right in front of me and reached around me so I had no choice but to walk away. How rude!! Next, I come home to unload my groceries and items that i paid for are not there! They are on my receipt but were never bagged and put into my cart! But what really has sent me to my limit is the extremely poor quality of products lately. Several times now I've brought items home only to find them moldy in a matter of a few days. Just today I pulled some shaved parm out to make dinner at it was full of mold. I bought it yesterday!! I checked the date and it expired on May 13th. I purchased it May 27th! This is inexcusable!
