I haven’t been to modern nails in a while so I figured I would give it a try again. I went to get a dip manicure and a normal pedicure. They did my pedicure first and then started my dip. However, it was taking my tech a pretty long time. No problem, I wasn’t in a rush. Towards the end of the dip manicure when she went to file the color, the whole polish started flying off. The tech next to her said she had been doing it wrong since step two. I felt bad for my tech, my question is, if she was doing it wrong and the other tech noticed, why wouldn’t she say anything? Then, my tech just insisted on doing a rubber gel manicure to fix it. I had never had that done and did not want it, but feeling bad for her, and wanting to get out of there (at this point I had been there for about 2 hours) I obliged. I wasn’t aware that the rubber gel burns your fingernails, so then I was extremely uncomfortable, just wishing she would’ve fixed the dip. She had to take all of the dip off, and redo the whole thing. I was there for about 3 hours all said and done. The worst part of it all was I was still expected to pay full pricing. I believe that is so unprofessional to make your client pay for something when you completely messed up. At one point the other techs and who seemed to be the manager came over to look at my nails when they were flaking off and were like “oh yea girl you messed up” so everyone in the salon knew what was going on, including who I assume was the manager and the person you pay. I used to go to modern nails all the time and moved back to this area recently so I wanted to give them a try again, but unfortunately I will not be returning.
Just to add, when the woman in front of me was checking out, the employee working at the pay counter got into an altercation with her, and the customer was insisting that he gave her the wrong change. The customer had to count it out twice for him to see the error, to which he finally gave her the correct amount. At this point, I really just wanted to get out of there, which I guess is why I didn’t even question paying full price and a tip for my services. However, I...
Read moreI have been going to modern nails for a couple of years. At first the service was exceptional and I really liked the rubber base gel. The fact that my manicures lasted four weeks kept me coming back. Unfortunately, the timing in between manicures has been longer and longer, and each time I debate continuing to go. I keep wanting to give this establishment another chance but this last time I decided I won’t be back. The last time I got a mani/pedi, the woman was very rude because she had an appointment coming in, and she made it obvious that she was bothered, to the point that I asked for another nail tech to do my hands because I was so uncomfortable. The woman was very unprofessional and very rough. I’m polite and always a good tipper. I gave her no reason to treat me this way. The nail tech who did my manicure was very polite but unfortunately my manicure only lasted for a little over a week. Still I came back again for a mani/pedi hoping the service would be what it used to be when I first started coming. Only to be disappointed again. A little over a week my gel started peeling. I remember a time the gel lasted a little over 4 weeks at times if couldn’t make it back as soon as I’d like. I’m not sure if the establishment is buying a different or cheaper brand but I will no longer be putting out $100 for a gel mani pedi that doesn’t last even two weeks. Most staff is very polite, and the place is very clean so I wanted to keep giving it a chance, but financially it’s upsetting to pay this much for a service and you don’t get the...
Read moreWhen you drive over 10 plus miles to go to a nail salon, you know its good! Especially considering the fact that these days, there are are as many nail salons as there are Walgreens or CVS! Not sure whats up with negative reviews below, but as far as a wait goes, I've never had any issues. The fact that there is a wait and there are so many nail techs goes to speak to the quality work that this salon does. They do the same quality work as some of the higher end nails salons in Philadelphia, but without the Philly prices! Oh, and they sterilize their tools! Not sure how closely some people pay attention to the tools being used, but this salon opens up the sterilized tools right in front of you, which I guarantee most nail salons do not do. Other places pull the tools out of a drawer OR have the tools in an open package and 'pretend' the tools are sterilized. Don't let the blue glowing box fool you into thinking they sterilize their tools - they usually keep it plugged to look like they use it, but trust me, most don't. The attached picture is from today (January 5th), and I got them done on December 14th. How many people can say their gel polish lasted this long without starting to chip or peel off? Modern Nails does such quality work, I don't see myself going anywhere else...
