Malley's Chocolates — Local services in Northfield Center Township

I visited the Macedonia location on 11-15-24 at approximately 1:30pm. I firmly believe positive should always be acknowledge so I will start with that:

I was immediately greeted by a younger male employee who was pleasant and displayed strong customer service skills, smiling and asking me if I needed any assistance. I advised that I was new to town and never visited this store before. The store appeared clean and well organized.

Now for the negative:

When I approached the section I was looking for (assorted chocolates) I met with an older female with graying shoulder length straight hair. She immediately presented a “sale” that allowed for me to buy 20 chocolates and get 5 for free. Unfortunately I was not interested in buying 20 individual chocolates as I was only buying for my wife and I, but I appreciated the offer.

This female employee seemed to be annoyed of my very existence from the very first interaction. She repeated the sale after I asked how many chocolates would fit (roughly) in their smallest box, and spoke in a tone that borderline sounded like she didn’t think I understood what buy 20 get 5 free means. We had few additional interactions involving product and by that point I was sick of being talked to in such a manner, so I left without purchasing anything.

I would like to add that I worked in retail management for 15 years with customer service always being a high priority. If I had an employee that spoke to my customers like this woman spoke to me, she would be immediately put on a correction plan that addressed her inability to speak respectfully.

I am not interested in any fee items nor do I care for an apology. I just want it to be known that you have an employee that creates an environment for customers that is the exact opposite of what any retail...

I was here the day before sweetest day. Very friendly staff. They were even giving out free samples. And those dang free samples sucked me into buying delicious pumpkin pie chocolate truffles. Man, they were delicious. Very pumpkiney. If you like pumpkin pie, you should definitely try them. But I was mainly there for their chocolate covered grapes and strawberries. Those are always delicious as well. But I was disappointed in their strawberries. They are A LOT smaller than they used to be. Now most of them are like bite size. There were maybe two or three that I actually had to eat in three bites instead of just one. Very disappointing, especially since they're so expensive now. I have had a negative experience at both the Macedonia and Valley View Malley's stores. I love Malleys chocolate, love it dearly however both locations have put a bad taste in my mouth.

Let me focus on the Macedonia store I did not feel welcome, in fact I felt I was being watched and rushed out of the store. If you are a type of customer, they are not used to seeing, you may have a similar experience at either of these locations. I will no longer be shopping at either. Chagrin...
