It's hard to provide a 2-Star review being that I know the most of the food is great but they have "not succeeded" with the service time, the cost is WAY over priced and the place is WAY to small.
From what I know, this is the same owners from the Chapati before it was burnt down. I applaud their willingness to start up a new business and do it again. I loved Chapati with the old owners and the new owners that now own Desi Diner but they have made a bad move with this venture.
Let's get to the full review...
I have had pretty much every thing on the menu and the Curry/Tandoori is great! Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Masala, Vinaloo, Korma are all great choices. They still serve you a size of curry that feeds a child for around 15-18 bucks and that is where I draw the line. If you order the garlic naan.. just be ready to be disappointed.. it's smaller than the smallest tortilla you can purchase for the outstanding price of 4.00 for (1) small piece of bread. All I can say is RIP off! I have eaten at the best Indian restaurants in the cities and this place is still pricer than those places. The atmosphere sucks, it's like a small coffee shop and you are literally eating in others people's laps. 1-2 hour wait for pick up...crazy!
I will not eat here moving forward unless they can price their food fairly OR change the size of the entrees. Might as well go to Cub Foods and buy your naan there for 4 bucks and get way more.
If things do change, I can give it another...
Read moreI love Pakistani and Indian food, so I was very excited to try this place. I was very grateful that they could accommodate gluten and diary free as well as vegetarian options for various family members' dietary needs. The people were friendly, and the food was tasty with generous portions. When I went on a quiet weeknight, the service was fast and friendly, and the food was tasty. I disliked the use of disposable plates and silverware both ecologically and as a general experience, but the food was good, so I came again. On a busy Friday night, however, the wait was extremely long, but they were very busy, so that is understandable. Also, if you are dining in on a cold night, the tiny restaurant is freezing every time someone opens the door, but hey, it's winter in Minnesota, so that can't be helped. My biggest concern, however, was food safety, and as a result, I will not eat there again. After enjoying our long awaited and tasty meal there last night, both myself and another family member barely made it home in time and were up most of the night suffering from what I suspect was...
Read moreI had a highly disappointing experience at this restaurant. First, the service was subpar. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive, creating an unwelcoming and frustrating atmosphere.
Second, the food quality was terrible. My friend ordered the palak paneer, and it was so bitter he could barely take a bite. It seemed as though the spinach or spices were either improperly prepared or overcooked, making the dish inedible.
I ordered the chicken biryani, and it was equally disappointing. The rice was dry, the chicken lacked flavor, and the dish gave the impression of having been made several days ago. On top of that, the quantity was surprisingly small for the high price they charged, making it feel like an even worse value.
Overall, the combination of inattentive service, substandard food quality, and insufficient portions left me completely dissatisfied. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good or worthwhile...
