it’s always awkward leaving bad reviews, but I feel like this experience was a bit unnecessary and uncomfortable. I occasionally go to little joy to do homework or chat with friends. I was fasting this particular day and was going to order something before I left because it was ramadan and it would be closer to the time I broke my fast. one of the baristas came up to me and asked if i wanted anything from the bar… I politely declined and she responded really uncomfortably rude, saying “this isn’t a library, this is a small business.” I genuinely would have understood that response had it been busy and i was taking up space and i wasn’t going to order but there’s no sign saying I could not wait in there without ordering. It made me feel so uncomfortable and sad… I ended up not even ordering what I wanted because I felt like i couldn’t be there anymore. I ordered a small canned drink and left early because it was the only thing that would be good by the time i broke my fast and the barista seemed a little upset again and said “is that all?” very condescendingly- I can’t tell if it was truly because the air was already awkward for me. I don’t feel like I had to even explain myself and say id be purchasing something later on because i was fasting because ive never had to go to a cafe and explain myself... it’s literally nobody’s business what I would be doing there especially if i’m not bothering anyone. Anyways i’m just disappointed cause I really thought little joy was very cute and had...
Read moreI live in a bigger city than Northfield and frequent many different cafes. I like to try a large variety. This preface is here to provide context to why I was so surprised to find coffee better than any of the cafes in my city in Northfield. Little Joy's baristas are the only ones in the state of MN I've met who can make a good flat white. This might not sound like a huge thing but that's meant as the most glowing review. The coffee was well roasted, well ground, well extracted, and my drink was made perfectly. The price was entirely reasonable and I got to enjoy my coffee on a balcony overlooking the river. This is the only cafe you should visit in Northfield. And if you like great coffee and a great view it might even be worth going to Northfield just for it. I can't say much about the pastries as I have celiac and couldn't try them but my friend I was with said she likes them. It easily earns five stars. The only reason I took one off in the atmosphere section is because the interior of the building has a postmodern sleek sterility to it that, while common in cafes these days, isn't my thing. To recap, coffee great, service great, location great. Go here. Also, if the owner reads this, your baristas are phenomonal. You should give...
Read moreOn the way down to Iowa I decided to stop in Northfield for a coffee, and found myself at Little Joy Coffee... and what a joy that was!
For someone who takes little joy (I can't stop myself with this pun) in mornings, this place was a wonderful! If I was a local college student you wouldn't be able to keep me away. The lighting alone in this place was great!
Seating: Numerous tables, booths, bar spots. Good selection.
Coffee: They had lots of fun flavors. I got the Spring Fling (espresso, lavender infused honey, pink salt, milk), but the Fizzy McGuire (matcha, fresh Cara Cara orange juice, pandan simple syrup, topo chico) and Salted Lavender Coldfoam both sounded really yummy and unique as well.
Food: I can only speak to the morning bun, but what a morning bun it was. Delicious! There was some orange zest in it that really set it a part from other morning buns I've tried.
Parking: On the street out front.
All in all, great first experience at Little Joy Coffee. I can't wait to go back! I saw pictures of poptarts online, so maybe I'll try one of those next time!
Parking: On the street out front
P.s. I'll post pictures later. Apparently the awesomeness of Little Joy Coffee is too much for the Radisson...
