Games n Geek & Anime! — Local services in Northfield

I have gotten to know the owners over the past number of months by means of my boyfriend who is very interested in buying and selling Pokemon and Magic cards. Though we live about 40 minutes away, I always enjoy accompanying my boyfriend to their store or sometimes even driving myself out there to look around and hang out. While I don't know much about the cards, they have other merchandise like pins, necklaces, mugs, and other trinkets and products that even I can appreciate. They have frequent events and tournaments to provide a space for those interested in playing Magic or Pokemon. I always have a lot of questions and the owners are always willing to answer them kindly and thoroughly. They treat kids and adults with professionalism and enthusiasm. The storefront is spacious enough to host events and intimate enough to create community. They also bring in their top of the line security guard daily, Peanut the black Chow Chow who makes his presence known if he thinks you're too close to the back of the counter! Super huge variety of Pokémon cards which was a huge plus.

Unfortunately their prices were 25%-30% above comps for individual cards. Asked about 6 different cards and they only looked at currently listed on eBay+Shipping to get a price they said they don’t use TCGPlayer pricing because she said you can’t see the card and it could say NM but come with creases (even though I bought 100s of cards off there without issue). Ex. Erika’s Dragonair in LP condition. TCGPlayer has it for $29.11 + free ship, eBay recent sold is $32.50. They stated their price is $40 is because the lowest one listed was $34 + $7 shipping. Ampharos $20 despite lowest available on eBay showing $14, Slowking with damage on the top $25 when comparable is $15. Lugia they didn’t even look it up, just said it was going to be close to $300 (roughly $200 for the condition) was really looking to buy today a good chunk of cards today, but not for well over where I can find...

It’s a cool store walked in and have a variety of items. That deserves a decent amount of stars to be honest. What made me grade lower was that I was in there for more then 10 min and I was interested in a few items but not once was I asked if I needed any help or if I was interested in anything in the store. However, when I’m assuming regulars would walk in they would be greeted and helped. This left a sour taste honestly. And when I wanted to catch someone’s attention they were occupied with their regulars for their weekly matches. This is why my review was marked so low. Customer Service played a big role and I was not very impressed. I prob wont be back but I hope they continue with their success their regulars were a large amount so...
