I have been coming to Paddison Square for over 50 years now! I grew up right across the street. We moved from the area in 1973, but I still come this way amost once a week. My grandfather bought one of the first homes across the street in 1953. My mother still lives across the street and may be one of the longest residents in this part of Norwalk, having lived here since 1953. She moved in '73 to another family home in Whittier, but returned to the older home in 1995. And has remained since.
I still come to area to visit mom, but also to shop at 99c store, Target, Rite-Aid and use the Post Office. I can remember when the Rite-Aid use to be a Thrifty Drug Store and the 99c store was a grocery store called, FoodsCo. For me that was back in '72, '73. Lol
There are a few homeless people now who occasionally panhandle, but I've chosen to treat them with kindness and compassion rather than attitude and judgement. That doesn't mean I give them any money. It means I don't give them an attitude that looks down upon them or attempts to assume to know what they're thinking, feeling or going through, and then just write them off as hopeless drug addicts who need security guards hired here to treat them aggressively and run them off like discarding trash. No one knows what another person has gone through. One person here suggested getting security, stating, for a fact, that they're all drug addicts who, "don't wanna change their lives"? Did she ask them? Did she offer them help or a referral for help?
I am 52 years old, have been shopping here practically all my life, and am not intimidated nor feel threatened by the homeless. Sure, I'd rather they weren't around but I'd also rather not see graffiti in Norwalk, not hear ignorant and mean spirited people speak as if knowledgeable and concerned, but hey I wish Led Zeppelin would get back together too. Can't have everything. Paddison...
Read morePaddison Square has been located there all of my life. 50+ years... First there was a Montgomery Wards there as well as a Bank of America. We frequented Montgomery Wards and Bank of America quite often. Now there is a Target Store located in Paddison Square as well as a 99 cent store and The Habit Grill. I believe there is also a Rite-Aid as well as a few other places to eat. I believe there's an automotive store in Paddison Square as well. I shop at that Target as well as that 99 Cent Store because they are generally well-kept and clean. And for anyone that's ever shopped a 99 cent store, for that store to be clean is somewhat unusual. Paddison Square has pretty much everything that I need when I go out. The Bank of America branch is still there. It's quite large with plenty of parking. Although I personally do not bank with Bank of America anymore. Right next to Paddison square is a Private Residence... I believe. And it's not unusual for the Peacocks that live next to Paddison Square to wander around in the West End of the Square. It's always a pleasant surprise to see Peacocks when I go to...
