I scheduled an appointment for a regular dental checkup on March 12, and it was my first time visiting Provident Dentistry in Novi. They took multiple X-rays, scans, and photos, and charged my insurance nearly $353 just for the initial exam. Afterward, they insisted I needed a deep cleaning costing around $800, with only $600 covered by insurance and $200 out-of-pocket.
Since the deep cleaning was expensive, I requested a normal cleaning instead. They refused, saying my teeth condition only allowed for deep cleaning. Because they wouldn’t do the normal cleaning, my first checkup and cleaning ended up completely wasted, and I feel like I was charged unnecessarily. They should have honored my request for a normal cleaning.
My wife had visited this clinic months before for a toothache, but they just referred her to another specialist without providing treatment. She had recommended this clinic for us both to get checked, but now I regret that decision.
What’s even more frustrating is that I had a cleaning just six months earlier from a different dental clinic, and they never recommended a deep cleaning. I have had normal cleanings twice at my old dentist with no issues.
The worst part is, after charging my insurance and not providing the cleaning service I needed, they continue to call and send messages asking me to come back for periodic cleanings. If they won’t do regular cleanings, why are they pushing me to schedule more appointments? It feels like they are just focused on taking our money without any genuine care for patients.
Honestly, I don’t understand how this place gets so many positive reviews. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend Provident Dentistry
Replay to the owners comment:
I scheduled my appointment specifically for a regular dental checkup and cleaning, not for any additional or more invasive treatments. A normal cleaning is a routine procedure and would not harm me in any way, yet I was repeatedly pressured to undergo a deep cleaning that I explicitly declined several times. Despite making my preference clear, you continue to send emails and messages urging me to come back for regular cleanings. This persistent follow-up feels misleading and contradicts the treatment refusal, revealing a concerning focus on booking appointments over respecting patients’ choices.
Additionally, the doctor recommended that I remove a healthy back tooth simply because it might cause problems in the future, even though it is currently in good health. I don’t understand this logic. To me, a dentist should try to preserve healthy teeth and only recommend extraction as a last resort after other treatment options have been considered. It’s frustrating to be advised to remove a tooth that is perfectly fine now. Honestly, I can’t help but wonder—if this were another kind of doctor, say an eye specialist or a cardiologist, would they recommend removing perfectly healthy organs just in case? That thought is quite alarming.
Regarding the payment, my insurance has already paid on my behalf for the services rendered. If you are truly committed to ethical practices as you claim, then you should return the payment you received from my insurance for services you did not provide, rather than charging me unnecessarily. I do not want to come to your office any more...
Read moreI LOVE being a patient at Provident Dentistry! I went to various dentistry practices that took care of my two college age children and my husband and I but missed the old fashioned family dentistry practice my parents had taken me to when I was growing up. Finally I asked one of my daughter's long time high school friend's mom who their family's dentist was and she enthusiastically recommended Dr. Angelocci at Provident Dentistry. As soon as I came for my first visit I knew I had the type of dentistry practice I had been missing and searching for. Dr. Angelocci was terrific, the hygienist Sarah was the best I had ever had giving me suggestions for better hygiene care for my gums and teeth, and everyone at their front desk was great to deal with. Everyone there felt like an extended member of my family! Dr. Angelocci strongly recommended I get a night guard and after I did, long time headaches stopped. He was a kind and gentle dentist. He announced he was retiring about a year ago I cried on my last appointment with him even though I hadn't been his patient too long but I am happy to report I feel I am in good hands and getting the same great care with my new dentist, Dr. Kessler. He is a wonderful kind dentist with a nice sense of humor.
The people at Provident are not pushy about the service they recommend but want the best long term dental care for every member of your family. I love going to a dentist's office who doesn't change its hygienist each time I go there, has hygienist and dentist that are true professionals, and allow me to schedule my cleaning 6 months in advance. I am so happy to continue to come to this wonderful office where people know me by my first name, are considerate, and help me in every way they can. They have added new evening and Saturday hours. I would recommend Provident dentistry highly to anyone who is considering a new dentist's office. It is the whole experience...
Read moreThis is Nancy Maldonado and I don’t like writing negative reviews, but this time, I felt the need and obligation to do so. My husband, my children, and I have been going to Provident Dentistry for about four to five years.
The last time I went for a cleaning, in February 2025, I mentioned that I had a broken tooth. They recommended a porcelain ceramic crown, and that day, I paid $595. I thought the crown was very expensive, but when I got home, I realized I had also been charged for a resin one-surface anterior on tooth 11 for $115.00 and another resin composite on tooth 12 for $128.
The next morning, I went back and told one of the front desk staff that I didn’t have anything done on teeth 11 and 12, and if they had done something, it had either fallen off or disappeared. The person who helped me that morning was very kind. However, later, when I went to pick up my night guard, I asked the dentist’s assistant, “Do you see anything on teeth 11 and 12?” She said, “No, but let me ask the dentist.”
When she returned, she told me, “The dentist said the resin probably fell off.” Not wanting to cause any conflict, I simply responded, “I already mentioned it, and no one resolved anything.”
The assistant kindly spoke with the front desk staff about my case, but the person at the desk told me, “The system says the resin was placed, and there’s nothing we can do.”
My frustration is that I never had any resin on my teeth, and I was charged $243!! I asked that lady in the front desk to send me the necessary forms to transfer my records and my family’s records to a different dentist. She sent the forms without any apology or...
