Underground Skate Shop — Local services in Nutley

If you’re only allowed to pick one business on the entire Internet and leave them a special single-use, giant gold star, Id give mine to Underground. It’s more than another skateshop. As a dad of two boys I am eternally grateful for how kind and generous the staff at this place is to our kids, it means more than I could ever say. It’s an anchor of the community. It’s a defining and important cornerstone of not just my town, but my immediate family. We moved here from New York City three years ago and my pre-teen son Joshy felt really alone. He had no friends and nothing to do so he just rode around on his skateboard all by himself. I had the same life experience as a child, if only I had stumbled across the underground skate shop when I was a lonely kid, it would’ve changed my life the way they have changed my sons life forever. He has bought four or 5 complete skate decks from there, dozens of wheels, trucks and bearings and apparel and from now on I’m doing all my Christmas and birthday shopping at underground skate shop for all my nephews and nieces as well. This is the kind of mom and pop shop the entire community should support. It helps that the prices are still just as good as anywhere else too! This awesome staff teaches my kids skateboard tricks, play video games with him in the shoe room that has a PS5 set up, they do finger boarding together and every now and then they throw him a couple free stickers through events, raffle drawings, giveaways and all kinds of other fun stuff. At a time where Covid has taken away so much of who we are and our social in stinks, I just simply cannot say enough about how grateful I am for the owner, Markus and this place and their attitude towards the kids in the neighborhood. Don’t worry underground, I tell all the parents they have to go to underground, and I’ll continue to be their biggest cheerleader as they continue to expand ! Great shop! I was told about this shop by the person I take lessons from and finally decided to check it out on a rainy day. Both Mark and Marcus were super friendly and very knowledgeable. Being an "older" beginner skater I was deciding whether or not to size up my deck. Mark was great and let me stand on his own skateboard that happened to be the same size I was looking at to see how it felt. He also gave me some tips for a couple of tricks. Kudos to the Underground Skate Shop! Today my son got his first official skateboard. Markus helped my son pick out the perfect board to match his personality and then built it from the ground up!
