I was referred here for a free session by one of my friends who is a coach at this location. First impression of OTF is that the ladies at the front desk were very nice and attentive. They got me signed up right away when I walked in. It was smaller than I expected, and did not have the large range of space that most gyms have, which I later understood why. It wasn't until later that I realized OTF is not in fact a gym, but is a HITT studio-service (similar to that of Pure Barre but with actual gym equipment). The workout tracks your intensity based on heart rate throughout the exercise and it's produced into points known as a Splat Number. The number is a combination of each HITT category you worked in (Orange, Red etc).
Parking* We went on a Saturday morning around 1030 and the parking was horrendous because it's located in a plaza. It took us awhile driving around to find a spot that didn't have a time limit.
Experience* The first thing they have you do is fill out an intake form and wait for the next class to start. You have to give them a credit card to keep on file since they require you to use one of their heart rate monitors for the exercise but they won't charge you unless you lose it for some reason. For the newbies, such as myself, the coach had us file into the room and showed us the basic format of what would be required for the class. I didn't need a lot of instruction on the exercises themselves, but it would have been nice to have had some instruction on using the rowing equipment as the monitor screen was outlayed differently than others I've used and the wattage was confusing to read once we started.
Once she assigned us our rowers, she had us file back into the room with the rest of the classmates, which felt like we were about to get onto a Disney ride. The class was divided into two sections: 1/2 the class on rowers with the others on treadmills aka "Treads". Those on the rowers were the first to change out to the weight room, while those on the treadmills continued for half the class until both groups completely swapped. The workout was high intensity and I definitely had to push myself. Things did get a bit confusing at one point, as the coach was trying to talk to both groups at the same time and it was easy to get confused on her instructions since we didn't know who she was referring to or when we needed to stop while we were on the weights.
Overall, I would say I enjoyed the class, although I could definitely do without the treadmill portion of the workout. It just seemed like we were on there way too long and the running got boring quick. Although I had a good experience, I can't see myself leaving my current gym since I need access to free weights and other types of classes based on the type of training I do. If it wasn't quite so expensive, I would consider joining in conjunction with my gym membership, but with the $59 price point for 4 classes a month, I just can't justify the cost...
Read moreSince joining OTF Kapolei back in May 2018... it has been nothing but great and a huge success for my daughter and I. Honestly when one of my fabulous friends invited us for the intro class, I was like hell NO, that is some hard core s$!t... I’m 42 yrs. old n my daughter is 17 yrs old. I have bad knees n lower back issues due to sports and being in the Army and having children. My daughter has shoulder slips due to softball, but my friend gave me the confidence to just try it... we went n my heart was beating so fast... I was really nervous n super scared... the front desk faculty is super amazing n so sweet n they made me feel a little more confident that I can do this... well long story short... My daughter n i loved it n now we go at least 2 to 3 times a week... I don’t believe in diets but I have lost weight and inches n still eat whatever n whenever I want to... I’m sure if I did diet I would see more results n quicker... but I’m happy n so is my daughter... she struggles with her weight as well but she has lost 11 pounds her body is getting firm n she is loving it... we both have a lot more to go but with the help of OTF Kapolei and the fabulous coaches, her n I will get there. Slow process but I know we will. The workouts are amazing and everyday they work different parts of our bodies. Everyone is working out to work out n not stare at themselves in the mirror thinking it’s a fashion show... we r there to work out and make amazing friends... no competition besides competing with yourself and how far u can push yourself to go... the famous saying while working out by the coaches, “ REMEBER WHY U STEPPED THROUGH THAT DOOR!!!” This saying always helps me motivate myself to push myself further n helps me step through that door every morning. :) I LOVE OTF Kapolei and I am so happy that I made the decision to join with my beautiful daughter. Thank u OTF Kapolei I...
Read moreI started my OTF journey back during 2019 in Ohio and had some fantastic and life-changing experiences at my local studios. It became a consistent way of life and I am grateful to my coaches there. When I moved to Hawaii and discovered that this studio was opening up at the same time, I was excited that there could be continuity and that my life wouldn’t change too much. I had NO IDEA how much different the experience could be!! From day 1, I’ve been blown away by this place! The culture of Hawaii and the culture of OTF obviously is lightning in a bottle here. The owners are amazing and personable and present. The coaches are some of the best I’ve ever experienced. The SAs are the glue that holds it all together. I’m not a vocal workout guy, I’m introverted and usually just want to show up and face my stressors with someone telling me what to do and they give me space for that. But it’s also an incredible community that you can rely on any given day. Great job everyone at OTF Kapolei - truly the best...
