Bri in the ER who was running triage the day I came in has to be the most garbage, unempathetic, and callous nurse I've encountered and this is coming from a fellow ER nurse (which I didn't disclose) who has worked with people across the country over the last 11 years. I brought my husband in for severe abdominal pain and near syncope. We never go to the ER, it was our first visit. He was in tears, hypertensive, in 10/10 abdominal pain, nauseated, and diaphoretic. He has a history of kidney stones and used that as a benchmark to quantify this pain as worse than that. To avoid assigning a more priority acuity to my husband, Bri and the tech Leah took his blood pressure 6 times between both arms hoping to get a lower number to avoid bringing him back while he writhed in pain. While he was crying and trying to breathe through the pain Bri's only concern was to say, "don't breath in my face" as if he was trying to do that, she was in his space. After his initial assessment, his wheelchair was rolled to the side. His pain remained severe and he told me that he was becoming dizzy and felt like he was going to pass out. I told the ER Tech Leah and she said she would tell the nurse. It took 30 minutes or more for Bri to come over and reassess him. When she came over she said, "you're dizzy?" and he said yes I was feeling dizzy and like I was going to pass out and that he has been feeling that way intermittently since and still had high pain. He again mentioned that he's had many kidney stones and that this was worse and Bri seemed annoyed that he kept bringing it up and said, "you keep bringing up that you have had kidney stones, this isn't kidney stones" which we knew but he was trying to explain his pain. she was so cold toward him, she wasn't patient centered, there wasn't one person in 3 hours she gave any genuine care and consideration for and just acted like she was too cool to care. All she did was retake his blood pressure and when it was improved from two hours after he came in she said, "your blood pressure is better" and walked away. hypertension isn't the only cause of dizziness, blood pressure isn't the only indicator of pain, she could have asked a midlevel or MD to come over and assess as well. While sitting there in the waiting room, 1 attempt was made to draw blood from my husband, the person struck the tendon in his hand and caused pins and needles so he asked her to stop and said she could try a different spot and she said "no, they can try again later" despite me asking later to attempt a redraw Bri ignored me. He ended up needing a CT of his abdomen and as nurses, we know that having labs prior to CT is an important part of the process and this caused a major delay in care. He was only offered toradol and zofran for medications despite indicating that he was in 7/10 pain and it took over 30 minutes to bring it over. The doctor told us that they would move my husband over to a bed to lay down (we didn't ask for this) and he remained sitting in a wheelchair throughout the entire encounter. We never even went into the main ED area, we stayed in the ED overflow/fast track area. I voiced politely to the blond nurse taking care of him that my husband was frustrated and explained why and instead of being kind and validating his feelings, her response was, "I just got here so don't be mad at me". My husband quickly assured her that he isn't mad at her and that he knows its not her fault but, her instinct to take it personal and be the second nurse to show zero concern or consideration when we conveyed our feelings nicely is why we will never ever come to Queens West ED ever again. Yes, I already spoke to the patient experience department but, figured I'd give a public shoutout to Bri for being the worst nurse Ive ever seen because in healthcare, documentation...
Read moreWent in ER concerned about broken thumb, staff in check were amazing.. Xray guy had attitude problem, after X-ray he says “have a day you deserve” fast forward to sitting in the waiting room 2 1/2 hours later. I had asked front receptionist if she knew how long it’ll be. She ran around to help answer my question. They told her waiting on the Xray. That was 1 1/2 ago. No problem we waited. Finally dr comes out says it a sprain they will wrap it w/splint. And we’ll be good to go. Sat there in the waiting room for another 45 mins mind you. This is all done in the waiting room. Then finally a person in scrubs comes out to wrap it. She puts all the supplies on the dirty table in the waiting room. And wraps the thumb only. Then leaves I’m like how long does this need to be on? And other questions, she’s like idk I’ll ask the dr. I’m like ok. Waited another 15-20 mins as I’m waiting I’m looking at the wrapping I’m like this doesn’t look right.. googled how it’s suppose to look. And she did it all wrong it actually fell off, while waiting. I’m just tired by now.. just want to go home. Do it myself Already. Finally dr comes out ask me if i received paperwork I said not yet. Asked him questions etc. then asked him if the bandaging is suppose to look like this? He look at it and says let me wrap it again.. WTF so her fixed it. Mind you we’re still in the waiting room having all this done. So unprofessional and disgusting. I went bought a new stint and bandages. Cause I’m not wearing things that were on the dirty table in public area. The lack of privacy and urgency was ridiculous. I understand ER but cmon servicing a patient in the waiting room instead of a private area is just grotesque. Finally 4 hours later. I get paperwork and leave. I was not rude in any way, just really disappointed in the lack of service and care for patients. First photo person in scrubs wrapped it 2nd photo...
Read moreOn 8-23-19 I went to the ER because a colonoscopy I had at Castle Hospital, the week before, had ruptured and I was bleeding internally. They performed some test and discovered the bleeding. I was told by the ER doctor, a blond caucasian female that I needed to go to Castle Hospital because that's where my colonoscopy was done and that I needed to go by ambulance. I objected and stated that I could drive or my daughter could take me to Castle. The ER Dr. strenuously objected and insisted I go by ambulance because my colon could rupture and I could bleed out and DIE on my way to Castle. I again objected and she stated please it was an immediate health situation and again stated the i could DIE. Now this was at 11:00pm. After a back and forth, I finally decided to go by ambulance since my problem was a dire one if I drove myself or was taken by my daughter. Now the ambulance did not arrive until 4:20am. I could have been at Castle by 12:30am if my daughter took me. Now I find out that AMR ambulance was informed that my transport was a non emergency and I was charged $2,561 and HMSA did not cover it. If I had known that, I would have left and had my daughter take me. I felt deceived and ripped off by the ER Dr. They should have informed me that insurance would not cover it. I even asked a nurse about the insurance and she stated that insurance should cover it. Now I'm stuck with this bill, or I have to contest this with AMR and HMSA. I feel that I should have been informed of this and been able to leave. I know I could have, but was convinced by the ER Dr. to take the $2,561 Uber ambulance ride to Castle. This is great info and don't be deceived by Dr.'s and hospitals. Now I need to investigate this on my own time or sue them in court. Be aware people. And ask more questions as I had learned...
