I'll preface this by saying that Dan's delivery team was truly outstanding. They were courteous and brought in my new dryer and had the old busted one (never buy Samsung) hauled away in three minutes flat even through a tight entryway. The appliance is working great and we've been able to dry our first load of laundry in a week.
Where Slyman fell short for me was the sales and service side of the order. I purchased everything online without going to a showroom. I called the appliance specialist assigned to the order, Nathan, the day before the delivery asking if I could get a 20-30 minute heads up call before the delivery arrives as I work near my residence and would just hop over to let the team in when they get there. The call went to voicemail - never did receive a return call. I'd actually canceled an order for a dryer I made at Lowe's because I wanted to support local people instead and thought there'd be better service to boot.
The day of the delivery I was at work and monitoring the delivery tracker when I saw the truck going down my street. I excused myself and headed home to let the team in. It turns out they were in the neighborhood for another delivery a few streets over. I figured I'd just wait around because surely I'd be next with the truck just down the street. I updated that tracker probably every two minutes for an hour. Then I updated the tracker and saw the truck was now a few towns over.
I called customer support and was transferred to Nathan where I again went to voicemail. I left a message asking if the delivery could be delayed to a certain time as I'd already left work once and was in an awkward situation where I'd have to leave again for the same reason. Never did receive a return call for that voicemail either. I ended up just biting the bullet and looking like a fool for excusing myself again for the same reason when I got a call from Dan's team that they were en route to the residence.
Definitely not the level of service you're looking for when you're spending hundreds of dollars. Might as well just buy from a Big Box because at least with them you know...
Read moreFinally found the refrigerator I was looking for, it’s on order from the manufacturer but Mike was great with giving me a timeline, and letting me know that with everything that was shut down due to Covid it could take up to a month after the date they are being told it will be. I appreciate the clear line of communication and expectations when taking with him. I will update once we actually take delivery of our fridge and we already have plans to order the matching dishwasher once they open those orders back up.
Update: While I still have not received the refrigerator I ordered, we visited the showroom and ordered the matching dishwasher from Cody since Mike was off that day. Then recently our washer shot craps and we needed a new one. After lots of research we decided on speed queens so I called up Mike and got a new washer ordered, they didn’t have one that would be in soon enough, but we’re getting one for their showroom so Mike routed that to be ours and set up delivery (washer is still in the box) and so I went ahead and ordered the stove and microwave to match the refrigerator and dishwasher that’s on order. I called Mike several times that day and he was always so polite and friendly, happy to answer any questions. Then after a few hours the husband and I decide we should just get the matching dryer to go with the washer, so I had to call Mike AGAIN, I joked that had to be the last call cause I couldn’t think of any other appliance I could possibly order. I seriously did not want to purchase an appliance from a big box store when our oven door broke. I remembered that there was a Slyman Brothers store in O’Fallon. I grew up watching Slyman commercials on tv. I loved those commercials. Pretty nostalgic. Nonetheless, I was a little concerned that being a smaller store, their prices would be higher. I was soooo wrong! Not only did we get A++ service, we got a great price, free delivery, free hook-up (OMG the delivery man stayed an hour to heat up the oven and run every test to make sure it didn’t set off smoke alarms, etc… like… ARE YOU KIDDING ME???) What FANTASTIC service. Beyond fantastic. I thought this kind of customer service was looong gone. I have no words. Did I mention they hauled off our old oven at no charge?
