If I had to describe the service here in one word I would choose "incompetent". When I got there, it wasn't very busy. But I still had to wait a long time in the elfa section for help. I had to repeat what I wanted several times to the person who helped me. It took her a while to understand that I wanted to extend and rearrange my existing elfa shelves. Then not only do I have to wait a long time for her to get me the parts she tried to include things I said I didn't need and she doesn't even get me the right part! I have 2' shelves and she gave me an 18" connector! Now I have to go 10+ miles there and back to exchange it for the right part.
On top of all that the register clerk didn't seem to know what he was doing while trying to "help" a customer and made everyone else wait. When another cashier came she went to the other line that was already moving pretty well leaving the rest of us to continue to wait. When I finally got to the front he insisted on trying to chat me up even though I said I was in a hurry and tired of waiting. I'm only going to go back to get the exchange I paid for, after that I don't intend to set foot...
Read moreI went into the Oakbrook, IL store today. I asked #1 associate a question, her response was "I have 90 secs til I need to take a phone call" go ask Matt over there, and pointed. Matt was on the phone, so I asked someone else, if I could have Elfa shelves cut down to size. Her response "Maybe but not today" and continued walking as she said "Sorry, Im expected a phone call and its 2 mins late"...then I finally got Matts attention..Her said he would see if someone could cut them, cause he was busy with a phone call, and tried to get another customer to ask her question cause he was busy. Matt did manage to have them cut for me, but he treated the other customer and myself rudely, as did everyone else in the store. If you cant help the customers in the store, then you shouldn't be on the floor on your phone. I was so happy to be back out shopping after all this online stuff during COVID, but I have never been treated so rudely. I wont be walking in a Container store anytime in the near or...

It was not until after several customers finished their transaction and I finally made it to the register that the cashier Joanne decided to request another register be opened. Seriously, why didn't this happen during the half hour I was waiting? This employee has frustrated me before when she screwed up a return in the past and I was not pleased to see her at the register again. Word of advice: please scan all of the items BEFORE dithering around with looking for a bag. This is exactly why the wait was so long. Both of my acrylic items were shoved into the same bag, resulting in scratches from the sharp corners and not even placing tissue paper between them. Love how they have an easy to access bathroom and escalator that makes it easy to access the rest...
