Dunes Mercantile Gifts & Guitars — Local services in Oak Island

So I've been coming to and from the Southport/Oak Island area for about 11 years now (I live in Texas and my folks in the area). Literally the only other store in the area for guitar things is in downtown southport called "strings and Beyond" (Great store by the way!). But I was in a bind and needed a capo and this place popped up on my google map search! I ended up spending an hour in this store, chatted with the manager and played around with a few of the guitars. He had this slim body, Takamine acoustic that was unreal, and I really wanted it, but alas I stuck to my guns and only bought the capo this time.

The owner is retired from pittsburgh and sells great guitars along with local art work. The local metal artwork that he had for sale looked great, and I want to go back for that guitar and also to get some of the metal artwork.

Adding this shop to my list of places I must visit while on family vacation. Stopped in to check out their guitars and ended up spending the better part of an hour just “talking shop” with one of the owners. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. No pressure, felt like I was hanging out with an old friend. As far as guitars go, they have super affordable options as well as some high end, hard to find used instruments. Coincidentally I had been online-eyeballing a certain model guitar and they had it in stock and I bought it. Their prices were at or below the cheapest online. Difference is I didn’t have to deal with shipping a large and fragile instrument, I could actually play it first, it supported a local business, and met a fellow music enthusiast. Stopped in after the beach to check out the selection of guitars. Varied assortment of acoustic and electric guitars Takamine being the high end (gorgeous sounding and looking instruments) some fender and an Asian made electric fender style guitar at very reasonable price point for a guslity guitar. Denis the proprietor was friendly and knowledgeable spent some time talking with him ( he is also a local musician) will be back when the mood strikes for a new guitar.
