Every so often, we can enter a business that incites a range of emotions from memories to mood. Instinctively, we sense that "I am where I belong at this moment." Before Einnim became a brick and mortar business, ordering her products online evoked memories of a safer time... yes, pre-covid.
Our family visits to my grandparents' farm during my childhood were extraordinary. My grandmother owned a Chippendale, otherwise known as an armoire, and it was beautiful, aged wood with a distinct woodsy smell. My grandfather built the farm with only a single closet in their home, which was in the bathroom where they stored old moonshine bottles, natural medicines, and linen.
The Chippendale held my grandmother's clothing, mostly what she would wear to church.. a pianist and Sunday School teacher. Living on a farm, she'd learned to value plants and roots indigenous to the land. She knew how to pick lavenders, pine, magnolia florals, and other scented greens to dry and place around her home in small sachets. I loved standing at her Chippendale, opening and closing the doors to experience the beautiful smells blended with the natural, old wood.
I ordered a sachet from Einnim, not realizing placing it in my armoire would take me back to the comfort of my grandparents' home. Just as I did all those years ago standing before my grandmother's Chippendale, I find myself opening and closing the doors to take in the smell... but more importantly, those memories from my childhood.
Since the opening, I have visited Einnim in Oak Park several times to purchase candles, soaps, and the shampoo bar... You heard me right... a shampoo bar .. and hairspray (Rosewater) slowly restoring hair damaged by medications. Is it an apothecary? If smelling the aromas of bergamot, rosemary, mint, eucalyptus, tobacco, cinnamon, lavender, chamomile, and much more promote healing... then yes, it is an apothecary. If being greeted by Lita and her lovely supporting staff is healing, especially in these trying times, it is an apothecary because these stress-free moments are mentally beneficial!. The boutique is "comfy" and stunningly adorned with unique buys for discerning and sophisticated shoppers that reflect Lita's vision. Thank you, Einnim, for adding to the quality of my life experience. I...
Read moreChivalry is dead and customer appreciation is on life support.... but not at Einnim. I had a small retirement celebration for my best friend and it was amazing. I immediately felt like my event was the only thing that this busy owner had on her plate. She went out of her way to make sure everything went smoothly. Our event had multiple generations ranging from 8 to 80 years old and everyone had a great time. She even accommodated guests whose physical limitations prevented them from sitting in the counter height chairs.....and the Einnim goodie bags for my guests were a huge hit. I can't thank her enough.
Through booking this event I was introduced to Einnim soaps and hand cream (which I use as a body cream due to my skin condition). I must say I am hooked. If you have never used organic products, getting away from the strong perfume commercial scents may be a challenge but your skin will thank you for it. This is not your buy one get 3 free kind of product so please don't be sticker shocked it is well worth the investment. Lita and her staff will make sure you select the best product for your needs as she so...
Read moreI am dishearten that while I did have such a great experience at the Oak Park location, the after math of it all was terrible! The candle making experience was great, no complaints. I went with my partner for the Valentine's Day event and have yet to receive our custom candles. We contacted the owner 3 times, she moved locations to Oak Brook, she let us know. While we understand that moving can be hectic, it's been 3 months and not receiving our correct candle is kinda insane. We received the incorrect candle 2 months late (incorrect wick type, jar style and size), I called and told the owner. She said she'd send our correct candles but never did. My partner called a month later and the owner was disgruntled that this "wasn't a big deal" and that she's a small business so we need to be more understanding. By any means, as paying customer of $100+ for 2 candles, not getting our candles after 3 MONTHS is kind of a big deal. Also, being passive aggressive with "thank you for making today a great day" due to lack of accountability as an owner...
