I’m considering building a small koi pond in my back yard, and East Bay Koi is the only name that poped up when I search for a koi shop near where I live. I stopped by the shop with just the intention of learning about the costs and different things that I need to consider before building one and not buying anything right away. The owner, however, was still extremely helpful knowing that I was not gonna buy anything that day. He was very knowledgable about koi and pond constructions and offered me a lot of great advice. The shop is very clean and organized. Their inventory consists of many different kois imported directly from breeders in Japan. My overall experience with the shop is very positive, and I will definitely be back when I’m ready to build my own pond. We lost 2 koi that were over 12 years old in 2 weeks. They appeared totally healthy but died suddenly without trauma or visible disease. We tried various measures to save the others in the pond, and talked to numerous people . Finally I called kelvin just as he was closing on a Friday evening. He identified the disease as fin rot via our post mortem photos and advised treatment . Not only did he advise but he left the treatment out for us to come and get immediately. He would have stayed after hours but apologized for having a commitment. He obviously trusted us and didn’t even make a big deal about payment.
