I was excited to try their pizza because of the reviews. Upon arrival we walked in and weren't greeted by anyone, however there was a sign saying self seating so we promptly found a table.
It wasn't too busy, and a gal greeted us at our table with two waters (no straws) asking if we were ready to order (literally right after we sat down). I explained to her that this was our first time visiting, and she briefly went over a the menu set up. I asked for milk for our 14 month old son however, they do not carry regular milk only chocolate milk or apple juice. We ordered water for him. (The water never came, about 45 minutes later after we asked again, and we received his water and our straws after she was done talking and laughing with her coworkers)
She came back around 15 minutes later. We ordered a medium pizza, (there is only two size options medium and x-large and no crust options) with pepperoni, pineapple, and bell peppers and a spinach salad. Our spinach salad came out prior to the pizza as we had hoped for. It was good, it's a mix of romaine and spinach with tomatoes, feta, and canned sliced olives. Our pizza came out around an hour after we ordered, it was also good.
We noticed a shelf of several book options to keep our little occupied while we waited for our food.
Our main complaint was the food took a very long time, and it was very hard to get help from the servers. They were also handling dirty dishes lining them up in the crates to be washed, but not washing their hands in between pouring drinks, cashing out customers, taking orders or serving food and handling dirty dishes. This seemed very unsanitary. None of the servers have name tags we started with one and a new server started...
Read moreThe place is charming, warm, inviting and rustic, filled with antiques as decorations. We visited on a Sunday during a clam dig tide and there was one other couple there with a few other people coming in to get take out pizza. The dough was tasty but a little soft in the center but was served piping hot fresh from the oven, the sauce was mediocre but the toppings were generous. We ordered what they call an "extra large" Hawaiian because my daughter prefers that, it would be considered a medium most places (16"), we also ordered a medium chicken and artichoke that would be considered a small other places (12"). They definitely put a lot of cheese on their pizzas and there were a lot of large pieces of artichoke, chicken, and tomato slices in the pizza which were under the cheese.
We always get pizza when we go to a beach town because there is never an argument and nobody is ever disappointed by pizza in my home. I have definitely had better pizza BUT I have also had far worse pizza, we would definitely eat here again.
The prices were a bit steep but it was something we expected walking into the place because it's a beach town for one and because tourist season is over but clam season has begun.
I would recommend this place as a go to for a quiet dinner in with a small family or for take out to enjoy on the beach in the back of an SUV at sunset or in the hotel room at the end of the day. Definitely take a few minutes to take in the decor and the history adorning the walls and rafters, see if you recognize any tools, locations, or faces within the walls of this quaint establishment and support a local business over a...
Read moreHaving lived in Ocean Shores full time, you tend to stick to what you know and trust. I decided to try something new and called Red Genie last week. First the phone was answered an they asked me to call back in 5 minutes. I should have known then. When I did order, they told me it would be an hour. Not an unheard of time for a busy weekend. I arrived to find only a couple of tables taken, not that busy inside. When I went to pick up my order, my single topping pepperoni was way over cooked. I didn't know until I got home how over cooked the crust was too. It was cut in very uneven slices, making it hard to share evenly. The salad I ordered was supposed to be the large. I asked how many people it would serve over the phone and was assured 4 people. For 10 dollars I was expecting something reasonable. What I got was a take away container that had iceberg lettuce and mozzarella for one. I did express my concern that it would in no way feed 4. The cashier got someone and they said they'd fix it. They returned with the same box crammed with more iceberg lettuce and one extra dressing. I took my order knowing it would be an hour or more to get the pizza fixed. Sadly I won't be spending my money at Red Genie Again. There are other pizza...
