Sierra — Local services in Ocean Township

I have mixed feelings about this store. They have a great selection of outdoor gear at solid prices, and I’ve made some good purchases here. However, during a previous visit, I had a pretty uncomfortable experience. While I was shopping, my girlfriend noticed that employees were following me around the store. I didn’t realize it at the time because I was focused on shopping, but she—having worked as a retail manager—picked up on it immediately. After I made my $300 purchase, she called for a manager and let them know how wrong it was to make assumptions about me. She strongly felt it was because I was shopping with my cousin, who is African American with dreadlocks.

That experience left a bad taste in my mouth, but I recently went back—with the same cousin—and didn’t feel that vibe at all. Maybe they’ve had some training and learned not to discriminate based on appearances, which is definitely a step in the right direction. I appreciate the improvement, but that first experience still sticks with me, which is why I’m giving 3 stars...

If you are an outdoors person who runs, hikes, treks or just loves to be outside here is your spot. Whats cool about this place is the selection of premium outdoor brands. Its like a garage sale of great brands with 2 types of clearance, regular and final. Shoes, running shoes, hiking boots and trail runners all available with great brands like Asolo, Salomon, Scarpa, Adidias just to name a few. Also has some Filson stuff....i mean like c'mon...but stuff comes in and out..just like its parent TJ Maxx....nice friendly folks who are not all over you as you shop...nice layout, and good prices....and great prices on the clearance items...i usually spend like 2 hrs here going through every last item... I rate it 5 Stars...check em out...you will be back

Update 1-13-2020 Quality has gone way down. I visit all 3 NJstores. It seems like they just took Marshalls cheapo merchandise and loaded up their shelves with junk. Less of the quality items and more junk like Sketchers, ColeHahn, Carhart etc. If they keep this up they will lose a...

Let me tell you this. there stores are very nice and discounts are very good. There online service on the other hand is some of the worst i have ever experienced. do you remember magazine ads that you would clip out and send in to then wait weeks for it to show up? That is how i feel after ordering from this company. In a day and age where you can go to Amazon and get items delivered the same day. Over a week to the day my order was placed for a substantial amount of gear for a trip coming up and it still has yet to left there facility. After reaching out to customer service they attempt to apologize for the delay and offer a $10 dollar coupon back to there site for the delay. If you have a month to wait and the patience then go ahead and order at your own risk. I for one will never be ordering from this place again. I have not even received my gear yet so lets see how that turns out. will update if my stuff...
