The short version: Do not get alterations, and reject all attempts made by the staff to assist you. Shop on your own.
The long version:
Had a bad experience months ago that I still think about. I decided to put trust in the staff rather than make my own choices and it was a mistake. I asked for a blue suit and had the pants and jacket pulled off the rack for me. The pants were too tight and I asked if I could go a size up. "Actually we can let them out for you to give you room!". I'm not sure why I couldn't just get a different pair of the rack, but alright. The jacket was a little off looking but I figured maybe it was because I didn't have the right shirt to match. They measured the suit and one sleeve was a fraction of a centimeter longer, so that too was altered. I figured it couldn't hurt.
I was told it would take 1 full week for the alterations to get done. That night I started having doubts about the whole thing, and it wasn't even a color I was satisfied with. I thought they'd pick something and make a good choice because they were experts, but in the end I decided I wanted to pick something I was happy with. I came back the very next morning to call the whole thing off and was told.... the alterations were done over night, and I could not have the pants, or suit, exchanged or have the purchase undone.
Even after the alterations, the suit did not look right and the pants did not fit. Even after a second alteration, the pants were still too tight. I don't understand why I couldn't just get a size up off the rack, and why these unnecessary alterations were pushed so hard.
I want to be fair and say I've shopped here before, but all my good experiences were finding a vest, a shirt, just miscellaneous things completely on my own.
My advice is to not accept any help and never get alterations. It makes the item non-returnable and It would be best to seek...
Read moreLONG REVIEW: I just recently visited the Oceanside store to pick up my new suit purchased there, that was being altered. This rating is not for the whole store, but for a specific employee by the name of Abolfazl N, (AN)
I purchased the suit on Tuesday 5/3. My suit was scheduled to be altered by Tuesday 5/10. My event is Thursday 5/12. I discovered that during my initial visit on 5/3, the store had forgotten to take measurements for the jacket to be taken in. They didn't charge me for it, but all in all the jacket was not taken in like we talked about. AN apologized, and checked the schedule to see if the jacket could be done by the time I needed it but said it was a long shot. Knowing it was the store's busy prom season, I reasonably agreed that I wouldn't need the jacket because my event was outside and it would be warm.
When checking out at the front desk with AN, another female employee told me that she couldn't make any promises, but there was a possibility I could still have the jacket ready by the time I needed it if the tailor came in the store today, and asked me to write my name and phone number down on a post-it just in case it was. AN then took the post-it, crumpled it up, and threw it away, and told me that there was no way it would be completed by 5/12. I asked why the two employees were on different pages and AN told me that he didn't think it would be done in time. I said that I didn't want promises, just effort that it could be done by 5/12. So I wrote my info on another post-it and gave it to the female employee.
Bottom line, AN was very rude and unprofessional. I'm in customer service. If you're going to throw away a post-it like that, knowing you're not going to put any effort into the customers request, WAIT UNTIL THE CUSTOMER LEAVES THE DAMN STORE. The female employee was very nice...

I recently lost a close friend to suicide. The emotional weight of that moment was heavy, and to make things more stressful, I realized I didn’t have anything appropriate to wear to the funeral. With only a few days to prepare — and working late hours as a barber — I felt stuck.
Luckily, Men’s Wearhouse in Oceanside is open until 9 PM, which made it possible for me to come in after work. I’m the owner of SwoleTheBarber LLC and cut out of Kingdom Kutz in downtown Vista, so time is limited — but these guys made every minute count.
The staff welcomed me with compassion and helped me pick out the right outfit for the occasion. They handled measurements quickly and got rush tailoring done by the next day. I was notified via email as soon as the suit was ready.
When I tried it on, the pants were slightly too short — but instead of sending them back for more alterations, the team pulled off a miracle. They found another pair that fit perfectly, right then and there. And they even refunded the tailoring fee. That kind of care is rare.
As someone who also serves the community every day in the grooming industry, I respect high-level service when I see it. These folks delivered under pressure and showed real empathy in a moment that meant a lot to me.
Huge thank you to the team at Men’s Wearhouse for making it happen. You’ve earned a lifelong customer — and I’ll be recommending you to my clients at...
