About 5 years ago we began shopping at petco religiously. We have 2 adult bearded dragons from covington petco and had multiple glow fish for awhile. About 6 mths ago we bought a bearded dragon from the black lake petco. We already were close to being done with this store because of constantly being overcharged. I can't believe it's taken this long for us to boycott petco & petsmart. We should've been done after reading the article about their supplier reptiles for mack. Which I urge anyone reading this to Google that, if you haven't already. You see I've read 100s of articles about ppl buying beardies from these stores and having horrible experiences, but our 2 adults are healthy. Our 3rd wasn't so lucky, she passed away a few days ago and our little family of 3 my husband, daughter, and I have been traumatized from this and have been crying for a week now when we realized how bad it was and we had to just make her comfortable. She was the sweetest beardie/pet I've ever met and in these last 6 mths she became family. Although you wouldn't of guessed she was more then a cpl mths old. She was tiny and dying from before we brought her home. My husband and I were wondering what they do with beardies that get too old to sell. She was the last in her tank and definitely the oldest beardie they had, she was dying from the sand. We knew she might not make it longer then a few days, but once we got her home within a few days she was happy and seemed healthy. We bonded quick, within a couple months she was lethargic, we tried everything to get her healthy again and we are experienced beardie owners, even using our emergency beardie kit. She would start to appear like she was getting better, but we couldn't afford a vet, being we had just moved and can barely cover rent at the time being. A week ago I started a go fund me to try to get enough money to take her in, she was paralyzed. She started developing blackish spots, and we were desperate to help her, so we felt so helpless in between pay checks. There was a point we wondered if we were holding a dead beardie, but we could still see her breathing and eye movement, although she couldn't open them all the way. We literally tried everything and near the end she almost lifted her head, she was rotting though and she took her last breath 2 days ago. I believe petco's lack of care and choosing to use mack as their supplier is responsible for this. I believe she had a birth defect, but we are just grateful she got to have a little bit of a good life with a family who loved her. RIP Bizzy there is a hole in my heart that won't ever be filled. Never...
Read moreThe Petco store is nice and they have a pretty large selection. It’s decently clean and most of the workers are nice. The dock of stars is because of a horrible experience with Vetco for the vaccination clinic. Our puppy was 3 days shy of being 14 weeks old which is the recommended age for rabies, however they may be vaccinated sooner if needed. We have a lot of raccoons, deer, mountain lions, etc. on our property so I wanted the vaccine done sooner rather than later. The guy literally yelled at us saying our dog shouldn’t be outside unsupervised anyways. She is under constant supervision AND on a lead when she’s outside but I cannot control the temperament of feral animals. She had also had two DHPP vaccines and bordetella, one of which the breeder did at 7 weeks old. The timeline for DHPP is 6-8 weeks, 10-12 weeks, and 14-16 weeks. He told us the one done at both 7 and 11 weeks was null and void so redid her 6 way at 13 weeks, which was not cheap and not what we were there for. He also snatched my dog off the floor without asking which really scared her when she was sniffing around. I had already checked to make sure there was no food or dog pee on the floor. He treated us like we were stupid, like we hadn’t spent thousands of dollars on our dog, like I hadn’t quit my job to dedicate my full attention to our puppy. It put a massive damper on our already stretched finances for something she did not need and the negative experience was just not pleasant. I took her to a Tractor Supply vaccine clinic and had a MUCH better experience where they advised me to not go to Vetco again because they are notorious for doing exactly what they did. I got her rabies, her last 6 way, an exam, dewormer, and most importantly, service that was not judgemental for $81 including tax. I highly advise everyone to not take their pets to Vetco, there are far better low cost...
Read moreThe easy return policy is a joke at this location. Came in to return an aquarium lid that had been purchased online so we I could get the item refunded (arrived shattered). There was a miscommunication and rather than refunding the item on to a gift card like many locations do or to the original method of purchase, it was refunded in the form of a "merch card" which can only be used in store. Which is utterly useless for an item I need to purchase online. Discussed this on the phone with a manager Carol the same day (at this point they've already taken my item back in store so I do not have the option to go elsewhere to return or ship back to Petco) and was told I could come back to the store and get the merch card voided and get a proper refund. Came in the next day just to have an employee by the name of Dwayne immediately giving me a nasty attitude and claiming they have absolutely no way to give a refund. Which at this point is pretty distressing because they have already taken my return item, so I can't just opt to not deal with this location and go elsewhere. After a lengthy amount of time with Dwayne shouting and acting irate, he finally decides to actually do his job and contact the manager who informed me I could come in for a refund, confirms I was right and gives me the refund. In short, would definitely not return to a location that feels the need to not only act in a verbally abusive manner toward customers, but also outright lie claiming they have no way of giving a refund when they absolutely did. Pick a different location that doesn't make it a point to hire emotionally unhinged...
