Usually we go to Sushi House but it was packed, thought it's been awhile since I've had Ayas so I'd give them a try again. The menu that was handed to me had what looked like soy sauce on the front.. Which I was thrown off by, cleaning is a top essential. The miso soup was almost the worst I've had, glad it wasn't all the way watered down but the taste just wasn't miso. The deep fried roll(Oly Roll) was slightly warm... Which isn't how deep dried rolls should be. Wasn't cooked long enough. The triple rainbow roll the seaweed in it was chewy. The ont one we enjoyed was the orange delight even though the salmon was close to the slimey stage 🥲 We didn't get food poisoning but it was a bummed and it wasn't something I'd pay 40 ish bucks again. The place only had one other customer in it so not a lot of people come in it seems.

I've been a regular here for the last 3 years, it's my go to spot for sushi, especially when friends are visiting. They offer a lot of different rolls and hand rolls which are always delicious. Good variety of Saki and range of pricing. Not what you would expect to find in a small strip mall with neon sign lighting. The inside is smaller, and has a calm casual atmosphere, which is great for date nights! I try to avoid peak times since they don't always have enough servers and wait times can be longer. The servers are all really nice, but not well versed in the Saki or in many of the rolls. This is a great place for fresh sushi, not a place for cooked items like the teriyaki chicken which tends to be really dry or other non sushi items which always seem to be just a bit overcooked.

A nice quiet place with sufficient ambient music to keep the mood very mild and hush. The food was very authentic compared to other sushi restaurants of its price. The prices for the sushi were very reasonable and we feel that they were not greedy at all when it comes to serving sizes and money. The sushi combinations were exotic, the combinations bursting with flavor. We ordered the ‘Jack in the box’ roll, and the combination of lemon, ponzu sauce, salmon and crab created one of the most exotic and exquisite rolls we’ve ever tasted. The kyudon was very authentic and flavorful, unlike other Japanese restaurants who cut corners for difficult food. The display of sushi was perfected along with a very fast and attentive waitress. Overall one of the best restaurants we’ve eaten at.

Before I go into detail about my food, customer service, and overall experience I want to explain why I gave 3 stars. First off, I docked 1star for not getting what I ordered and another star for being completely ignored (will explain). Ok.. Now. With that being said I will now elaborate on my Aya Sushi experience. I am a HUGE Spider Roll fan!!! I know the ingredients (avacado, cucumber, tempura softshell crab, celery or a little romain lettuce (sometimes), nori, rice, then the Masago)!! and how they are supposed to be made, and I am VERY picky when it comes to my Spider Rolls!! (But I do tip very well because I know how picky I am)! Most EVERY sushi place I enter has a menu, a menu that's pretty universal. Now, these menu's show pictures of what the sushi rolls look like, and every menu has the SAME picture of a Spider Roll (1 made with fish eggs, masago, and 1 without). I prefer and WANT my Spider Roll made with the Masago on the outside. I will ALWAYS make sure and specify how I want mine before I even order so that there is NO miscommunication. So, I walk into Aya Sushi and no one greets me or acknowledges that I am even there. I preceded to walk to the back of the restaurant, mind you that there is 3 employees sitting down eating food and 1 cleaning/meandering around, until I am noticed by one of the cooks. He does apologize for not noticing me and I politely tell him that's it's ok then the reception lady meets me at the register. On my way into the restaurant I have already grabbed one of those menu's to make sure they are capable of making my Spider Roll. So I go on to explain to her that I want a Spider Roll and want it made with the Masago on the "OUTSIDE". She nods her head and says ok ok no problem. I say again, "can you make sure the Masago is on the outside"? The whole time the chef is sitting at the Sushi bar looking at us. She then again nods and says "yes"! Ok. I pay, leave a nice 6$ tip on a 12$ Spider Roll and wait for my food.I usually tip afterwards to make sure that they had listened to my requests and made it the way I asked for but I was paying with card and had no cash. About 10 minutes later I get my food and go to my car. I had just gotten off work and was on my way home. I flag traffic and had been up since 4 am and it was now 4:30pm, so needless to say I was HUNGRY and tired. I open the lid and see that it is NOTHING like what I had asked for! It didn't even resemble a Spider Roll!! There were sooo many issues I don't know where to begin. Well, to start, there was NO MASAGO! NONE. There was an imitation crab mix in place of my Tempura softshell crab, YUK! No avacado or cucumber and they had drenched my roll with some sort of liquid!! Oh, I was MAD!! Like... REALLY!!!???!!! WHY?!? How hard is it to follow a menu that YOUR RESTAURANT HAS???? I was upset, tired, and too damn hungry to go in and complain. I didn't want to fight about my damn Spider Roll. Now, with EVERYTHING that I just said there is still the 3 stars I gave them. I gave them 3 stars because when I did open the container it did smell AMAZING!!! I was like, "ok Tiffany just try it"! I'm glad I did try it because it was good. NOT SPIDER ROLL GOOD, but good. I even ate the ginger that they always put besides your sushi rolls. Lol . If I ever go back there, maybe/maybe not, I will sit there and make her look at me while I explain on how to make it!! Lol The ONLY reason I am making a big deal about this is because it didn't even resemble a Spider Roll or have the ingredients a spider roll is supposed to have. When you advertise 1 thing and do another I have issues with that. Especially when I pay and TIP for...

BE WARNED! I USED TO WORK HERE. It is absolutely disgusting. Check out their thurston county health inspections. They did not provide employees with soap to wash their hands. I mean there was SERIOUSLY no soap in the restaurant at all sometimes. Kitchen is kept in pretty gross conditions. They would let spills sit in the refrigerator for days. They would defrost raw fish on the top shelf of the fridge, letting it drip down onto other foods such as produce... big no no. I got yelled at one time for "wasting" soy sauce because i dumped it out BECAUSE IT HAD 5 FRUIT FLIES IN IT!!! They told me not to dump it because there was nothing they could do about the fruit flies and they got in there all the time and they couldn't afford the waste. I saw fruit flies in almost every soy sauce container on every table. I was told to just fill them with the bugs still in it because "customers wont notice". They did not sanitize the tables. When I first started the job I looked everywhere for cleaning supplies. Couldn't find any. They told me just to use warm water on a rag that they washed a couple times a week. I was under drinking age without a permit and they were making me serve and pour alcohol for customers. I never once saw any food temperatures taken. I never ate there while I worked there because I was legitimately afraid of getting sick. The owner/manager would also steal tips from the waitresses. One time I was REALLY sick but they made me come to work anyways, told me if I missed work I would be fired. I tried to use some clean napkins to blow my nose and they yelled at me and told me to collect slightly used napkins off of tables after customers left to blow my nose with. If a customer got angry about something, it seemed like the manager would pretend to know less English than she did so that she didn't have to deal with the problem. Over all horrible to their employees, DISTURBINGLY UNSANITARY, and pretty rude people in general. The food looks amazing, i always wanted to try it, but it is a major health risk. I would...

Let me start out with the fact that I am an experienced waitress and I've worked with difficult owners / managers, but nothing like this. First. They don't wash their rags. Ever. They make you put them in warm water with lemon and yes they use the same rags every day. Second. The owners are ridiculously rude to the staff, And stealing tips from the waitresses. Third I was told not to smile or talk to the customers, and to take their order and leave.

The thing that pushed me over the top. The other day an old lady just finished eating and she decided to take a picture outside the restaurant. She was standing in front of the door and another costumer was walking out and accidently pushed her over and she cut her hand open and scratched her face. So I ran out with napkins and held her hand and was cleaning up her scratches having someone call for paramedics so she can get checked out. When sitting with this lady, Cong, the owner. Ran out and yelled at me demanding me to come inside. I refused. As soon as the paramedics arrived Cong once again ran outside this time yelling "I no pay you for this, you work for me not them" Going in side he legitimately yelled at me and humalating me in front of people dinning telling me what I did was wrong and I'm not getting paid. Telling me to go home and maybe hell call me.

The absolute worst place to work. And check out their health department review's as well before you decide...
