I was SO excited to finally take a cooking “class” at Sur La Table. I’ve been wanting to it forever! My boyfriend surprised me and booked us a class. I was so disappointed and underwhelmed with the entire experience.
First off, I thought when taking a “cooking” class we would be learning, doing things on our own, have a place to sit while eating, be taught by an actual chef and get a full portioned meal since we paid $100 per person. This was not the case at all. There was only one young woman leading the class and she was not a chef by any means. She was very nice but I was expecting someone with actual cooking experience.
When we arrived they had 3 separate stations for 14 of us. One for the salad, one for the herb butter and another for the risotto. My boyfriend and I had the salad station. The only thing we got to do was mix together a few pre-measured ingredients and cut up one shallot.
The butter station had to cut up a few herbs, mix the butter and then that was it.
The risotto station also already had the broth pre-made so all they had to do was stir it.
Each station took about 5-10 minutes to do.
The rest of the time the young lady leading the class cooked the six New York strips that were supposed to feed all 14 of us.
We each got only 3 little slivers of steak, and a scoop or two of risotto. For $200 I expected way more. You also have to stand and eat.
The salad was good but it’s hard to mess a salad up. The banana foster dessert was good as well but the main course fell short.
We will...
Read moreLove coming to this store to shop! They have very helpful and courteous staff working here. Yesterday I called and the store manager answered the phone. He located the item and saved it for me so I could get to the store to purchase this item right away!
What do they sell? A lot! From really expensive coffee machine to kitchen towels. Jura is the machine I love and I have one at home that I use daily! Highly recommend Jura!
What brands do I love that they sell here? Le Creuset, Staub, Jura, Breville, De’Longhi, and don’t forget their own brand Sur La Table!
Every time I come to this store I always like to spend some time looking at their clearance section (located on the southwest corner and southeast area by the bathroom). I have purchased a few named brand items by shopping in these sections.
The staff here is very educated regarding the products. So if you have any questions, always ask and there in no pressure to make any purchase.
Lastly, I highly recommend signing up online by entering your email or ask the staff to enter your information. I have received two coupons through the mail already with $10 each and free beautiful high quality 100% cotton Sur La Table bag made from India ($10 retail). You can use the $10 off coupon even with on sale and...
Read moreI booked the Date Night: Brazilian Steakhouse cooking class and was underwhelmed. The fee in my opinion is too much for the duties to be shared, so I’m guessing we actually paid for the steak. “Some” people are able to cook and/or prepare food to be cooked and others aren’t, which means waiting around and/or watching others cook, cut etc., The instructor did not do a good job of telling people what to do, when to do it and how to do it, we were left with a lot of questions like, “how should the onions be cut?”, “How should the bananas be cut?” “Where do we put this?” Etc., not much direction at all and again, I don’t feel like some people were able to actually cook, just watch others prepare. I felt like my boyfriend was more of an instructor than the instructor was. I personally enjoy the concept of each couple/group/individual having their own dish to cook so that everyone is involved and this is not that type of experience; a select few people prepare/cook and the others watche the dish(es) be prepared. There was one woman who poured half a cup of salt in to the steak prep, due to no fault of her own because the instructor gave no direction, so the steak was salty. Despite all of that, the dishes prepared were tasty, steak was salty, but edible if that...
