I have been shopping at Asian Market in Orem since they opened. I have never had a problem with anything here before. But I need to share my last (and it will be my last time shopping there) experience on 9/20/21. The first thing I did was look at the other 1-Star reviews on Google of Asian Market in Orem. I noticed that every Response from the Owner of these reviews were defensive and tried to shift blame to the customer. This is extremely unprofessional and degrading to their customers. That is exactly how I was treated in the store today.
I went to the checkout counter with my groceries and told the cashier this was a tax-exempt purchase for the Alpine School District. I had made multiple purchases here in the past this same way. The cashier said he could not take a tax-exempt credit card. I informed him that I had made this type of purchase before and asked him to get help if he was unaware of how to process this transaction. He told me that he knew what to do and processed my transaction. When I checked my receipt, I saw that I had been charged sales tax. I informed the cashier of this and he proceeded to tell me it was my mistake because I failed to tell him it was tax-exempt. The store was busy at this time and I felt that he just wanted to process my purchase and I would leave or not check if I had been charged sales tax.
I asked him to fix his mistake because I cannot have sales tax on a school purchase. He told me he could not fix anything. The manager came over, who was working at the cashier counter right next to us, obviously heard our entire conversation. He told the manager that I failed to tell him this was a tax-exempt purchase. The manager, who grew a very condescending sneer, said to me, “Do you speak English or do you speak Chinese?”. I’m not sure what was the intention of this question, up to this point we had all been speaking English. I feel it was intended to degrade and demean me, even though I speak perfect English. The store was busy and this time and the cashier and the manager did not want to take the time to properly process my purchase. Additionally, they wanted me to accept the blame for their mistake in charging me sales tax.
After what felt like 20 minutes, arguing back and forth, the manager finally refunded my purchase with sales tax and re-scanned my purchase without sales tax. They never accepted responsibility for their mistake and never apologized for the inconvenience this caused me and for the humiliating and disgraceful way I...
Read moreA friend invited me to attend a sushi making class. We arrived a little late and I wasn’t thinking it would be fun. I was also convinced that I wasn’t even capiable of making sushi.
The atmosphere was casual and inviting. The overall experience was exceptional. This was one of the highlights of my life. We were constantly laughing and everyone made tasty sushi while learning basic techniques.
If you’re even half willing to trade a night of Netflix for a remarkable good time why not spend it making food that you will enjoy eating?? This should be at the top tier of everyone’s bucket list.

Read moreA large, full service, Asain market finally comes to Orem. Huzzah. They appear to have just about everything I could imagine, and much I can't. It also has a fast casual dining area. Unlike a place like OceanMart, there's no hardcore Chinese. No offal, or blood. In some respects, too bad, but they know the audience. It's things that aren't likely to put of the locals, and it's provided without so much sugar. There are lots of dishes that look great. The food the wife and I had was very good. Certainly, when you tie in price, and knowing it's cooked well ahead. Nobody should be doing the Panda place, and similar, with Asian Market in the area. Although not really Asian, they have a solid selection of Tim Tams. They mention having Filipino ingredients. That means they better have bangús (milkfish). This is the first place I've seen that. They have a number of other frozen seafood items that interest me. I like home made Ramen, but doing noodles is not going to happen. The best noodles are made by Sun Noodle. They supply some of the best places in the US. They supplied Naked Fish when they were around. They have them here. They're not labeled as such, but you can still tell the frozen packets that are Sun Noodle. All in all, this is a great addition, and I really hope there is enough people that can keep them...
