GameStop has truly become the worst video game store in 2024. Once a staple for gamers, itâs now a frustrating and disappointing experience every time I walk in. First and foremost, the prices are absolutely ridiculous. New games are often marked up beyond retail value, and the used games are overpriced for their conditionâmany are scratched, damaged, or missing cases. It feels like theyâre trying to charge premium prices for products that barely meet the standards of what youâd expect at a reputable store.
The customer service is another issue. Employees rarely seem knowledgeable about the products theyâre selling. If you ask for recommendations or information about new releases, you often get blank stares or vague responses. Itâs clear the staff is more focused on pushing memberships and accessories than actually helping you find the games you want.
Moreover, their trade-in offers are a joke. If you're looking to sell or trade in your old games, be prepared to get pennies on the dollar. GameStop offers laughable trade-in values for games that are still in excellent condition, and then turns around and sells them for much higher prices.
Finally, the in-store atmosphere is lacking. The stores are often cluttered and disorganized, and the layout feels outdated. Itâs hard to find what youâre looking for, and the overall shopping experience feels like an afterthought.
At this point, GameStop is a shadow of its former self. With overpriced products, poor customer service, and a lack of genuine interest in the gaming community, itâs no wonder why many gamers are turning to other retailers or online stores. Iâll definitely be avoiding GameStop...

Often times I have visited certain gamestops and felt I was lacking in the knowledge base I should have or felt belittled, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
But when it comes to the gentlemen I both crossed paths and exchanged words with, the experience was anything but. They provided helpful recommendations and answered my questions sincerely and in earnest.More importantly it came across as though they were talking with/to me not at/down to me.
I didn't walk away feeling I was lacking or less than. I appreciate their patience with me.I suppose everyone's experience is different. We all can trauma...
Read moreThis is very specific to my experience today (8/6/18, 1400 hours). Walked in to the store one other customer browsing, one employee (I will not be specific but management can certainly ascertain who was working). No acknowledgement from the employee, having a question I sat there and stared at him for a bit till he looked up. I then asked if they had a pre-owned copy of a switch game. He replied, "I haven't seen one come in." He then turned away and ignored me. I guess I'm impressed that he has the inventory memorized. I walked out with no further acknowledgement. Not so cool. I spend a fair chunk of change there, don't expect special treatment, but a hello and a possible computer check (or open the used game drawer) would...
