I have been a customer for some custom jewelry work, but more so for repairs and changes. The jewelry repair is perfomed by their goldsmith, Mr. Jonsson, who has proven to me to have superior skills needed for tough jobs. I can imagine for a simple task he may be more expensive or take longer than other jewelers but also that he's one of the few who can accomplish some rather tough jobs.
Three examples: 1.. A gold herringbone necklace got bent backwards and then some of the chevrons were bent fully back and out of position. Three other jewelers with either custom designers and/or repairs who looked at said it could not be fixed. Another told me over phone that once that happens it's pretty much never worth trying. I thought it was going to have to be melted down for the gold. Mr. Jonsson repaired it so that you really have to look to find where the damage had been. It was a $45 fix, which clearly is not cheap, but significantly better than the cost of any alternative.
Another gold necklace with very tiny fine "beadwork" broke along it's length. Again others said it would be very hard to do and would show if they fixed it. One recommended it be shortened into a bracelet. Mr. Johnsson repaired it to new. Again not a ten buck do it while you wait, but when done, invisible.
A third necklace was too short to lay flat when worn. To me it seemed a simple job of taking off one clasp, adding some length of another chain and a new clasp. That's just what they did for the same price all others quoted.
they also have a variety of some interesting pieces they do themselves so worth a look see to vary from the "Mall...

I started a custom wedding ring project with Mansoor Fine Jewelry in early April, and the entire experience has been incredibly disappointing. Despite paying a $250 consultation fee—supposedly for CAD designs and professional services—I never received a single proper CAD drawing. Instead, I was given a low-quality image of a ring with a pattern drawn over it in what looked like Microsoft Paint, complete with hand-drawn carvings. That is not a CAD.
I didn’t hear any progress updates until June. At that point, I had to go through multiple phone calls and several in-person visits just to repeat the same design details over and over again. Each time, it felt like we were starting from scratch. Even after clearly outlining the design with four separate sketches, they managed to draw the wrong pattern on the image of the ring. I had to explain again which design I wanted—for the third time.
This level of disorganization and lack of professionalism is unacceptable, especially for something as meaningful and time-sensitive as a custom wedding ring. I’m deeply disappointed and would not recommend this jeweler to anyone expecting clear communication, professionalism, or...
Read moreI highly recommend Mansoor Fine Jewelers in Palo Alto. They have a beautiful and unique selection at many price points, and they also provide excellent service for repairs.
They can also create custom and replacement jewelry. For example, I lost a pearl drop earring once, and they recreated it perfectly from its paired earring.
A bit of history: My mother discovered this store when it was called "Mansoor and Gore" and we were living in Palo Alto in the 1980s. Even after we moved away, we still drive over an hour to visit when we need something jewelry-related. Now my daughter is also a loyal customer. We like to combine a visit to Mansoor with lunch at one of the restaurants and cafes...
