Read morevisited this restaurant a week ago, and unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience. From the moment we walked in, I couldn't help but feel out of place, as the staff seemed to treat us differently compared to the other customers, who were mostly non-Hispanic. When we approached the counter to order, the cashier seemed rude and distant--not at all like the friendly, welcoming service you typically expect at restaurants. It was a stark contrast to other places, where staff greet you with a smile. Then, when we ordered a Pumpkin spice latte to a guy that took our order and he clearly made the mistake of not sending the order correctly. We asked the barista if the coffee was pumpkin spice, and she responded in a condescending and dismissive manner, telling us it wasn't pumpkin spice but just pumpkin syrup. The tone was unnecessary and made us feel unwelcome. (She didn't try to replace it) At places like Starbucks, if there's a mistake like that, they would quickly make you a new one with no issue, but here, the attitude was totally different. To make matters worse, we were never offered help clearing our plates, and when we asked for a to-go cup, the barista (whose name was Lidia) gave us rude looks and made faces, which felt disrespectful. Don't come here anywhere else treat you better than...
Read moreWhat Schwab's Pharmacy was for aspiring actors in 1930s Hollywood, Coupe Cafe is very much the Silicon Valley startup analog. Great cafe hidden away from the main drag of University Avenue that has cozy tables and recessed crash pad booths if you can score one before the crowds hit.
Magazine articles posted in walls describe how startups are known to percolate here, with Coupa's owner as a supportive, encouraging participant in countless beta trials and mini launches that have occurred here. And it's not all talk -- Coupa has invested in a superfast 50 gig WiFi network, free for customers.
As past reviewers have said the Tiger Spice chai is a tasty treat to have here. Menu also includes pastries, mini pies, and Latin munchies like empanadas and arepas. The marron is a strong Venezuelan take on the latte and will keep you and your code reviews alert and at attention. Place can be close quarters though, so of you're catching up on work or tinkering on confidential info, find a wall-backed seat or break out your laptop privacy screen.
Otherwise, cozy on in and take part in the Silicon...
