Despicable customer service. I have been a loyal customer here for several years, purchasing various different pies and enthusiastically telling family & friends to buy their pies and birthday cakes here. This past Saturday, I purchased two slices of cake for $20—only to find, upon opening the boxes at home, that the pieces were less than 1.5 inches wide (and 0.5 inches at its narrowest; dare I say, they were almost paper thin). I submitted polite feedback on their website about receiving less product than I paid for—no response. When I called the store a few days later, I was told that the baker had admitted he/she had mistakenly sliced the cake too thinly and to come to the store to pick up a gift certificate as a compensation. After work, I drove 30 minutes to the business only to be told that the owner had authorized a $4 return on a $20 spend for 2 slices of cake. LOL. Now, not only has the business shown it does not care about a longstanding customer's satisfaction and feedback, but it also does not hold any regard for their time as well.
If this is how the business treats loyal customers, I will NEVER spend my hard-earned money here again and will encourage my community to do the same. Deeply disappointing from a small business I loved to support. Despite the diner concept, to charge $10 for a slice of cake (which, as a reminder, is mostly flour, sugar, water, and eggs) as a multi-generational business in the middle of the most expensive restaurant real estate in Silicon Valley and cheating the customer out of what they've paid for is shameful behavior. There are too many businesses that value their customers, who ALSO bake wonderful cakes and pies.
For starters, I recommend Lady M Cake Boutique, Sprinkles Cupcakes, Mademoiselle Colette, and Satura Cakes as wonderful alternatives. For a true diner experience, I recommend Bill’s Cafe, whose hospitality has always warmed my heart when I frequent the restaurant for its delicious french toast...
Read moreGoogle Global reviews, cool, here's my first. I've been eating here for many years and haven't given up on this place. It's one of my favorites in Palo Alto. It has an incredible selection of comfort foods, some are better than others. Overall it's much better than similar, family-style restaurants like Black Bear Diner, Denny's or Applebee's. It's not pretentious and not ever expected to be fine dinning. It's a fun place with a goal to provide good food fast. It is both convenient and consistent. Service is friendly and not always great, but at least more than "Just O.K.". I do have a soft spot for it because I respect the great bakery. Having put in some time as a manager-cook-baker-bartender at a Ski Resort Cafe and Bar in the High Sierras, I know how hard it is to be consistent at baking great breads, cakes and pies. They have a terrific baker(s) and the selection includes; fresh breads (huge loafs are readily available for take home), cakes that challenge the best cake shops, and my all time favorites, pies (fresh banana cream, key lime pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, all are faves! try them all!). I'm a fan of classic milkshakes made the old fashioned way in the tall tin cups that fill your glass and still has plenty to share. Yep, their ice cream is the kind with full-flavor, lots of high fat-content, rich and delicious! I used to be hooked on mint-chip shakes, now I simply go mocha or chocolate. Both have flavor and substance, eat 'em up with a spoon! You'll be happy with whatever selection. One glitch recently, when my wife ordered Chicken Noodle soup and got a watered down Chicken soup with basic veggies and added under-cooked pasta noodles. She returned it. They politely apologized, offered to redo it, she declined, and they took it off the tab, no questions asked. So, basic, high-quality diner food. There ya go....
Read moreMy friends and I decided to stop by here for the nice atmosphere but left unimpressed . The food truly is mediocre diner food, which there is nothing wrong with if you're in the mood for that. But the pricing doesn't justify the portion size & quality level at all. Our server was good but at the end of the meal someone in our group wanted to get some ice cream to-go as not to hold up the rest of our group. They wanted to ask if the ice cream was made in-house and nobody seemed to know except for the manager. They told us that the ice cream is not made in-house but isn't even made in California. You call yourself a creamery yet the ice cream is shipped from another state??? Palo Alto Creamery cannot be bothered to even support local pastures it seems. On top of this conversation with the manager, he was very rude about the idea of asking for ice cream to go. Making it seem like it was a bizarre thing to even ask. There's literally plenty of other ice cream shops down the road who has as all their ice cream is go to so this was a very confusing response on Palo Alto Creamery's end. Even worse the manager cuts off my friend to help the person behind them acting like the conversation was ridiculous. We decided to take our business to a creamery that has better attitude and actually...
