UPDATE & WARNING: I receive a voicemail last night from Munir, sounding very bothered saying this was “the 16th time” he’s calling — a blatant lie as that was the 1st time I ever receive a call from that #. I called right back, & this rude man began angrily scolding me for leaving a negative review! It is incredibly inappropriate & undignified for a business owner to find a customers number and outright harass them for leaving a bad review. The man berated me on the phone angrily telling me off and raising his voice at me for not contacting them before I left the review. I initially remained quiet & respectful despite his demeaning attitude & reminded him (like I mentioned in my review) that I did try contacting their customer service already. But even if I hadn’t contacted them prior to leaving a review, you have NO right to call my personal number to yell at me for a review. The man in his 7 minute rant belittled the fact that I was upset over my “half pound chocolate” as he kept repeating, that it was a small mistake and I should somehow let it slide? Your 1/2 pound chocolate was $12- it’s not cheap in any way. But I don’t care if it’s a penny - At the bare minimum a business owner has to own their mistakes to a customer, apologize and rightfully refund their money. It’s not a favor you’re doing me- it is my right. He also told me that maybe it’s my tastebuds that are off for mentioning that their products tasted old— I find that hilarious but also, I have multiple family members who agreed with me about the taste being old- regardless it’s such a ridiculous thing to say. I wish I recorded the phone call because I was in utter disbelief at being treated that way. On top of all of that, he kept insisting he wasn’t mad at the review, because he’s such a successful business owner, has so many good reviews that mine doesn’t affect him- then what are you doing harassing me for my review?!! It was so degrading and I will NEVER support this business again. And I still haven’t received my refund that he claimed he will send at the end of his phone call. Stay away from this business!
——————————— First and last time I order from them. I spent over $100 on multiple items from their site (nuts, chocolate, gummies, and baklawa) ALL of which taste stale, hard, old and somehow smoky?! All the reviews here that say they send you old food are not wrong. The gummies tasted so strange- like they soaked the flavors of everything else in their store. Same with the baklawa - tasted stale and smokey which is so disgusting. On top of all that, one item is completely the wrong chocolate - I ordered 1/2 pound of the chocolate called “arabic icecream”- and they sent me chocolate that had some sort of berry jam in it. Contacted their customer service and received no response! They literally don’t care about their customer satisfaction and just care about getting...
Read moreIt's very hard for me to leave this review as I really wanted to love this place (and I normally don't leave such a poor rating) - but the service was just terrible.
I visited last month with my sister and I was immediately impressed by large selection of turkish delight and other candy. Halal gummies are hard to come by and they had plenty to choose from! But...there were flies buzzing around the turkish delight behind the glass pane. Still...worth a try I guess?
However, service was incredibly slow. What should have been a 10 minute or less in-and-out visit became 40 mins of waiting around. What happened was my sister was ordering a large amount of turkish delight and gummies and every time she asked for a specific thing, the employee would ask another employee to check on it, proceed to help someone else besides us in line, and then the employee that was asked to help us would proceed to work on other things or help someone else. It was totally unorganized - in true "back home" fashion - however, I expected a bit better for a place that is so highly rated.
I noticed that they were helping Arab people more quickly than non-Arab. Regardless, we aren't Arab and other people in the store were being helped and left quicker than us - despite the fact that we were there first.
The last thing that really bugged us was when the cashier asked us to "wait a minute" after bagging us our treats. So we waited. And waited. We waited for maybe 5-10 minutes. And this cashier was going in the back for quite some time then finally came back up front and helped other customers besides us. We were totally ignored.
We were reaching the 40 min mark of being in this store and we approached the busy cashier saying "do you still want us to wait?" And she said - " I need to print you our a receipt."
My jaw dropped. SERIOUSLY?! We were waiting all that time for a receipt? Which could have been printed when our items were bagged?!
Mind you, this tiny shop was very narrow - and extremely crowded the entire time. They were NOT limiting the amount of people in this store. They were NOT enforcing masks. Heck, the workers themselves had their masks around their chins! I was appalled. I am a nurse on a COVID unit so I do take mask wearing seriously. I was surprised this shop did not considering that there is a mask mandate in the Chicago area.
I don't think I would risk coming here again unless they become better at customer service and enforce masks among their employees and customers. Highly recommend coming early if you want to...
Read moreThe Nut House is a very special place.
I always tell all my friends from out of town to stop by and visit.
I want to give a special thanks to Em Wissam who made my last couple visits extra special and an amazing shopping experience. She is truly one of a kind. She made me feel so welcomed ,and showed me items that I did not know the store carried like a cute Umm Kulthum coffee cup/plate set.
Em Wissam radiates the most beautiful, fun, and positive energy. I love how upbeat she is. She reminds me of my favorite cousin and I will definitely continue to come back to see her.
I can see that she is an expert at building rapport with her customers and at keeping them engaged. In my line of work that is also very important as well ,so I truly value it.
I am passionate about music and Em Wisam smiled at me pointing out that I was all decked out in Umm Kukthum gear, wearing an Umm Kulthum mask, tshirt, and tote bag. 🙌🥰She had me laughing and enjoying myself the whole time.
I walked out of the store with a big cloth bag full of items and a beautiful Umm Kulthum coffee/tea set. I filled out about 8-9 raffle tickets for my purchases and Hiba gave warm freshly roasted nuts and coffee while I filled them out.
I came back to the store a couple days later to buy more gifts and of course another Umm Kulthum coffee set and was so glad to see her again. As soon as I opened the door and walked inside Mr. Hamdan remembered me and welcomed me back to the store. Saad was super sweet and suggested I try some delicious palestinean seeds.
The icing on the cake was that the lovely trio of Ms.Mais, Mr. Hamdan, and Ms. Em Wissam all serenaded me at the register with my favorite song "Inta Omri."🌱 They asked me to sing a long. This was a such a special touch and a warm memorable experience. I shared with them the name of my teachers that are giving me private maqam classes to improve my singing and showed them videos.
Thanks for such a lovely customer experience.
This team goes above and beyond for their customers.
Absolutely everyone Mais, Hamdan ,Morad, Saad, Hiba, Em Wissam aka Kayla, is super sweet, helpful, friendly, and courteous. (I looked up The Nut House videos on Instagram to make sure I got most of the employee names Lol Sorry if I missed anyone. Fun videos btw)
