I've been a Costco member since 2007. For the first 15 years, I was a fierce loyaltist to Costco and the Kirkland brand. I probably signed up ten friends over that time after touting Costco's service, warranty, and product selection.
Sometime around 2022, that changed. This Costco especially got ridiculously busy. It's nearly impossible now to not stand in long lines to check out. Today, for example, the self checkout line stretched clear back to the spices row with at least 20 carts in line. In a lot of stores, that is rare. Here, it is commonplace. Upon getting to the front of the line, I see a common sight - four Costco employees huddled together talking but conspicuously NOT opening more lanes even though three are closed.
Beyond sheer volume in the store, the employees in this store seem to hate their jobs. Where I used to get smiles and helpful, friendly faces, I now see scowls. Today on checking out, I was chastised by the cashier because my smart watch attempted to pay with (gasp!) a Mastercard.
If the ridiculous volume and poor attitudes weren't enough, I swear that Costco has become anti-member. BS like card scanners to enter the store make the shopping experience that much more difficult. The whole self checkout station is grossly inefficient and leads to backups almost every time I have the displeasure of shopping there.
I think what's really soured me on Costco and especially this store is Sam's Club. Where Costco has made shopping unnecessarily difficult, Sam's Club has trended in the other direction. I don't even have to show my card to get in my local Sam's Club. Their app and ability to scan and simply walk out means that I can get in and out of Sam's Club in less than fifteen minutes. Today it took me ten minutes just to find a parking space at Costco. Because of this, where I used to shop almost exclusively at Costco, I now go to Sam's Club probably 80% of the time.
I know this review is shouting into the void, but Costco (and especially this store) needs to get their stuff together. I've been a member for 18 years but am seriously considering not renewing my membership in two months when my...
Read moreIt's amazing how an interaction with one 'customer service' at the returns desk can possibly lose a longtime Costco customer. Here's my story...on 09/26/19 I took back a Microsoft Surface that I had purchased on 06/26/19 in order to just evenly exchange it because I was experiencing issues with my Surface. Costco's return policy is 90 days for items like electronics. As a teacher, I was able to calculate that 90 days from my date of purchase would be 09/26/19. The rude returns desk agent asked to see my membership card and went over to another computer. When she scanned my receipt, she came back and said since I'm outside of the 90's days that I would need to go over to the concierge desk. I reminded her that 90 days from 06/26/19 is 09/26/19. She flat out told me, "No it's not because some months have 31 days and others have 29 days (yeah she said 29 days), etc. You're over the 90 days." I was speechless that she was going to argue over what amounted to hours. She then called a supervisor who told the returns desk agent to go ahead and do a refund. The returns desk agent came back and said "We'll do it this time." I thought to myself "Ha! You guys are splitting hairs over a few hours?" I told her that most consumers would not think to consider which months have 31 days and what months have 29. She finally refunded my card so that I could purchase a new Surface on my Costco Visa, which wasn't the original card I purchased the older Surface on. I was told they had another Surface in stock. Well, I follow another Costco worker over to another computer where he looks up and sees that the store actually does NOT have any more Surfaces, and will not be receiving any more Surfaces. Arrggghhhh. I go back over to supervisor because I want to now have the refund transferred to my original card I used to purchase the other one. Of course, 6 people couldn't help me because the refund transaction hasn't cleared the bank. I will be contacting corporate and they will be making this right, or they will lose a longtime customer. Before this, I absolutely loved this Costco!...
Read moreOne of the worst experiences not only in Costco stores, but in the United States which is supposedly my home! I went to the Parker branch today with my younger sister and two kids aged 7 and 5, wanting to order prescription glasses for myself. While paying there, my daughter needed to go to the bathroom so I asked my little sister to take her, and gave her a pack of wipes every mom keeps in her bag. After that, I went to the clothes section in the middle to start shopping and wait for my sister and daughter there. They came and my sister put my wipes back in my purse then she went to get a cart for us with my two kids. Suddenly, a security man or officer approached me calling my name! Asking me if I’ve stole anything from the store and put it in my bag, stating that someone claimed that i stole “cheese”! I was shocked to the point where I didn’t even know what to say! I said no and that we haven’t even been to the food section yet, then he asked can I look through your purse and I said sure. He looked through and took the wipes out to inspect it and said, “I don’t see anything stolen here, do you know why someone would suspect that?” The first thing that came to my mind was, “because of the piece of fabric I have on my head!” But I didn’t say that because I’m not used to these situations! So I just said “no”. The officer/security apologized and went to the 2 people who complained, and I saw a tall white man, & a short blonde young lady who both were obviously employees in the store, arguing with the officers (3 officers) trying to convince them I, my 2 children, & 19 year old sister are thieves! I couldn’t but go talk to the lady at the eyewear section because she was the only friendly face I saw in there. I couldn’t help but cry while telling her what happened. She called a store assistant and that nice store assistant apologized and that was it! They expect all the humiliation I felt to go away? What am I supposed to tell my kids? That this happened because we’re muslims? That its not safe anymore to...
