This is a complex review. I began visiting this wonderful store about 1.5 years ago and purchased my very first vintage dive watch from the store. My experience was wonderful! Then I purchased a vintage orient watch and did business with the owner and he was fabulous. Fair and good pricing. So the store, the products and the owner are wonderful.
However, l have been to the store subsequent times and have had subpar experiences every time I come in. The watchmaker is very smart and talented and I respect his craftsmen ship And expertise. To be blunt. His customer service skills need polishing.
There was an incident where I inquired about a vintage submariner while in the store with my wife. I was in the market for the same type of watch. When I inquired about it, the response I received was negative. He was talking to someone else and kind of made it a point that the watch was too expensive and he didn’t want me to overpay and get a bad deal. I appreciate the honesty. But it was very embarrassing for me. It seemed that he was showing off for the customer he was speaking to. I left the store and he ran outside to talk to me with the watch. I appreciate the effort but it’s a bit late. I just went in again and was speaking to him About some vintage items I had and wanted his opinion because I value it. It just seemed like he wasn’t interested at all in helping me out. It’s almost like he talks down to people that aren’t as knowledgeable as him.
For the record. I purchased a very similar Rolex the next day for around the same price. I was hoping to possibly make a deal but the customer service was terrible. Especially after a scene in the store. I am a watch enthusiast and also have knowledge. This store is great but I will likely not be returning. I hope these situations are only few and...
Read moreI would like to give this shop 5 stars. I purchased two vintage watches, which I was told had been serviced and contained proper parts. They both did, in fact, contain proper parts, but only one had been serviced. The second needed a considerable amount of extra expense to bring up to scratch. I was planning to return this second watch, however, the 5 day return had elapsed and a third party was interested in funding the repairs.
I find the 5 day return policy too strict, as it generally takes more than 5 days to send a watch off, have it examined, and send it back,. Moreover, an accessory included in the watch's functioning was not the proper size, and although the watch worked, I found that it sometimes needed a firm tap to get it going, prior to servicing (it's also a sign that it needs servicing in the first place).
Had I not found a way to fund the expense of repairs for the second watch, I would've given the shop 2 stars. Luckily, everything turned out well in the end for everybody.
It's a nice shop and a friendly shopkeeper. Parkville is a nice...
Read moreI discovered this wonderful store while browsing the area with my wife, and ended up purchasing her a vintage watch while there. And while I love the store and the collection of vintage watches, and enjoy browsing the selection online, I have met no end of frustration regarding customer service. I have called multiple times, leaving messages, and emailed multiple times regarding availability of watches, having potential repairs done there, and possibly have some watches placed there on consignment. I never received a single call back or returned email. The one time I was able to reach the store over the phone, it was sales staff that answered and they were indeed very pleasant. They instructed my to text pictures of potential consignment watch, which I did. However, have not yet received a response in almost a week. Summation - great store, great collection, but that customer service really...
