I remember when this store first opened, and I would go there whenever I could, not just to support them but also because they are a great example of the types of stores that can thrive these days. Now that I have moved away, I am so happy to see this small business thriving and pop my head in when I come back to visit.
Hands down the best selection for tinned, pickled, salted fish products. Matjes, Herring, Riga Sprats, Caviar, Smoked Salmon, Hot and Cold Smoked Mackerel, occasionally Smoked Eel...the list goes on and on. Another highlight is the (Eastern European regional) Charcuterie, and yes they do carry blood sausage products and some other items you won’t find elsewhere, almost certainly not in State College.

It’s very specific in many cases and although there are certainly some more strongly represented regions of Eastern Europe, you really can’t have it all, so I can’t really fault them for that.

Walking through the door of this store transports me back to a time when the markets were small, friendly, and a place where you got personal service. The owners of this shop do that. Certainly a wonderful old world touch. Service is always warm, friendly and with a smile. One never feels like a burden to these folks, no matter how many questions are asked or how long one wants to browse.

I am delighted with the opportunity to purchase foods from my second home land and will return weekly for more, and to try...
