I absolutely love Amrita! My only qualm is that I didn't find it sooner!
The teachers are all lovely and fun, the classes are challenging, but work well for both beginners and more advanced practicers. They really get to know you here, it feels very welcoming and inclusive. Lots of good energy and the space itself is very beautiful. I thought it was a spa when I walked in!
Notes for beginners:
Don't be afraid to ask! - They respond very quickly via text or email. Shoes off downstairs, everything else can go upstairs (yes there are cubbies). If you want to wear socks, make sure they are super grippy. If you have a membership, the only classes you absolutely need to bring your own mat are the hot classes. If you don't have a membership, then you need mats for hot and normal temperature yoga classes, but not barre, pilates, or aerial yoga. Every class has options for different ability levels and different energy levels. Some days you feel like pushing yourself, other days you're just trying to get yourself moving. Meet yourself where you are. Always keep your shoulders down and back and always engage your core. Both help avoid injuries and make you stronger. Make sure to bring a bottle with you, the studio's tap water is filtered. If you forget, there is bottled water available to purchase. Pet. The. Dog. His name is Tigran and he is a TOTAL sweetheart. Definitely the unofficial...
Read moreThis studio is the best I've been to in the city. Amrita puts meditation and mindfulness first using the asanas only to deepen your meditative state and restrain your mind. If you aren't connecting breath to movement you aren't doing yoga. That being said you will absolutely get challenged physically and the community here is unlike any other I have seen. There is truly no ego in this space and the instructors and students are actually rad humans you would want to hang out with outside of the studio. Regardless if you are just sticking your toe in the water or a seasoned yogi, you have to check out or revisit this studio. I can even say it's better than when I first visited Amrita years ago. I've seen other reviews making statements about the lack of classes and price of membership, I can tell you hands down this studio is well worth the price of admission offering classes daily Sunday - Saturday. If you have the motivation, trust me Amrita has the classes to challenge you on multiple...
Read moreI am not new to yoga, I practiced regularly at City Fitness multiple times a week for more than a year pre pandemic. A took a class with Heather and was extremely disappointed. I struggled to keep up with class due to personal issues and at one point needed to step out of the class.
After about 10 minutes, Heather did come to check on me. She encouraged me to come back for the wind down. I rejoined and finished the class.
After class, Heather, in front of all the students told me, now that she knows why I’m coming to yoga that her class probably isn’t for me. She said it clearly wasn’t what I signed up for and rattled off a list of teachers and classes she though would be more to my level. She also made a comment that she is covering for a teacher on Friday so I probably shouldn’t take that class.
In my experience, yoga is a safe space for everyone regardless of level, body type etc. I have never felt judged or criticized in a yoga...
