Anthony's Painting & Paperhanging — Local services in Philadelphia

I would NOT recommend Anthony's painting. He made a mess of our house - not only was the painting sub par (drips all over the walls, floors, lights, door knobs and outlets, etc., incomplete prep work, and as a result poor finished work), but he under-delivered on every aspect of this job. While Anthony seemed to be flexible and helpful at the beginning, as the job went on, he found any reason to not get our job finished well or in a timely manner. We had agreed on a 2 step approach given that our house was mid-construction and he said that it would all work out well. He sold us on his deep bench of qualified painters - don't fool yourself...he has two really good guys and himself. If he personally isn't at your house doing the painting, it's not a priority for him. The rest of his guys make a mess and then he and these two guys come in to clean it up. Oh, and on the last day of the job, one of his good guys was clearly high - glassy eyes and slurring his words, and on ladders. We had to make him some coffee just to try and get him back to life.

Where to start? They inconsistently puttied the trim and small nicks in the drywall as they said they would, they did not do two coats of paint on many things (for those who do hire them, I would watch what they actually do because one of his guys told me this was common for them to try and skip the second coat where possible). He promised that they would finish up all touch ups and make sure everything was great- another falsehood. And he said that they would clean up after themselves and leave no mess - and still now nearly a month later, we are still finding paint drips all over the house. He basically stood over us to get paid at random intervals that he made up, despite our requests for him to set a schedule. Also, we asked him to paint one wall with a color for us to check out prior to committing, and he painted 5 rooms with it! He wouldn't change it without making us pay an extra $1200 which we talked him down to $600, what a deal (sarcasm!).

Overall, Anthony was really painful to work with. We knew it was a big house, with multiple steps but he agreed to all of that going into it. His price was right in line with other paint companies but he complained to us regularly about how he wasn’t making money…It’s not the patron’s job to ensure you are profitable. He saw the job, he knew what he was getting into- manage your resources and quote the job such that you make money. It’s not as though he was the cheapest provider or gave us a price out of line with others we received. We had to babysit him the entire way and we wish that on no one. We wasted vacation day after vacation day to accommodate his schedule- some he didn’t even show up for. There are flaws throughout the house and lots of cleanup work left for us. **the pictures look good far away but close up, you can notice the poor work and mess left...

Anthony was one of the best recommendations we got when we bought our house in 2022. We've worked with Anthony and his crew multiple times over the past couple years and they remain our go-to. His team painted our entire house after we purchased it - including walls, trim/baseboard, and kitchen cabinets. They go beyond painting and helped remove and dispose of some built-ins, repair areas in the trim, and add wallpaper. They did beautiful work that truly transformed our house before we moved in, and continues to look great a year and a half later. And because of the great work they did then, they are our first call for smaller projects like repainting bathrooms, repairing a wall, etc. We know we can count on them for quality work.

Anthony is honest, communicative, and runs his business with the utmost integrity. Every time we've worked with him he's been responsive, timely, helpful, and kind. When we initially worked with him, I was pregnant and cautious about COVID so he and the crew were very thoughtful about wearing masks around us. Recently an issue came up with our paint and even though it had been a year and a half, Anthony and his team was at our house within 2 days to solve it and were exceptionally gracious in the process. It was a testament to the way that he runs his business.

I would recommend Anthony and his team to anyone - they are a pleasure...

Anthony was recommended to me by a friend. I liked the work that was done in their house and the biggest comment they had was that Anthony's team worked clean. They made sure to not disturb anything, and put everything back where it belongs.

Fast forward 2 years, we purchased a new home and needed to get it painted. First though, call my friend and get Anthony's contact info. Our first interaction was a walk-through in which he explained everything that would be done...which was everything, patching drywall issues, caulking, painting walls, ceilings, trim, everything. In addition to that, he provided excellent recommendations for color schemes. Based on his recommendations, we selected a color, got a sample mixed up and tried a few areas before finalizing everything.

Anthony showed up with a full crew. They spent the first hour preparing the house, covering all surfaces and making sure nothing would get damaged. They kept dust to an absolute minimum by wet-sanding. Anthony and his team knocked out a living room, kitchen, finished basement, and 4 story stairwell/hallway in less than 2 days. The work is absolutely flawless. We will not hesitate to hire him again when we are ready to tackle the bedrooms...
